Gerrit Cole, Aaron Hicks, Rougned Odor Lead New York To A 2-1 Series Win While Shane Bieber , Cleveland Lose The Series To New York

New York won the first two games of the four series over Cleveland!

When?

Thursday and Friday!

Where?

Cleveland Ohio

Why?

Domingo German returned, bounced back in New York’s 6-3 win over Cleveland!

How?

Domingo Germán allowed three runs (two earned) in the first inning. Cesar Hernandez’s sinking liner popped out of Brett Gardner’s glove in left field, Eddie Rosario’s infield hit knocked into Mike Ford at first base and Germán booted Franmil Reyes’ potential double-play ball up the middle.

Domingo German wasn’t the only one to bounce back as the New York offense did as well!

How?

DJ LeMahieu delivered a RBI single in the third, then Torres -- having earned a closed-door chat with manager Aaron Boone after failing to run out a grounder on Wednesday -- pushed two runs home with a third-inning RBI single that also eluded right fielder Josh Naylor for an error.

In the win in the second game of the four series New York won yet again!

This time by a score of 5-3!

Why?

Because pitching and offense led the way again for New York!

When?

Friday night!

Then,

Last night New York won the series by a score of 2-1!

Where?

Cleveland Ohio!

Why?

Cole outdueled Cleveland ace Shane Bieber Cole was better and stronger. His fastball sizzled into triple digits. His changeup fell away from flailing bats. The Yankees’ stoic right-hander finished with 11 strikeouts and no walks in seven innings of one-run ball.

While Aaron Hicks and Rougned Odor each homered to account for New York’s offense.

When?

In the fifth inning!

Meanwhile,

Cleveland is on the other end of spectrum and lost the series!

Why?

On Thursday in game one of the series of the four game series

Cleveland’s pitchers struggled to throw strikes and walked nine New York players.

In game two the offense came storming out of the gate to put up three runs, but the offense was nonexistent for the rest of the game, as Cleveland fell, 5-3, to New York on Friday night at Progressive Field. And for the second straight outing, Allen couldn't escape the third inning.

The problem? His fastball.

In his first two starts, Allen struggled to find his footing through the first two innings, but he settled in to go five frames in each outing. When he toed the rubber in Cincinnati last time out, the opposite occurred, as he cruised through the first six batters he faced but gave up five runs (three earned) before recording an out in the third. It was then that he noticed that his fastball velocity started to dip.

He averaged 93.2 mph on his heater through the first two innings, but when he ran into trouble, that average velocity dipped to 91 mph.

Last night Shane Bieber who started for Cleveland and who opposed Gerrit Cole struck out nine in seven innings.

However it wasn’t enough as Shane Bieber gave up two home runs to Aaron Hicks and Rougned Odor that turned out to be difference in the game as Cleveland lost the series to New York!

Today New York is going for the sweep of Cleveland while Cleveland is going to be looking to salvage a game out of the four game series!

Two right handed pitchers are starting the finale of the four game series for New York and Cleveland

Why?

Because Jameson Taillon is starting for New York and Triston McKenzie is starting for Cleveland.

Jameson Taillon comes into the game with a record of 0-1 with an earn run average of 5.40.

Jameson Taillon was sharp in his Tuesday outing, limiting the Braves to one run and four hits over five innings -- his best effort thus far as a Yankee. Taillon struck out five in an 80-pitch performance and could throw 90-95 pitches this time out.

Triston McKenzie comes into the finale with a record of 0-0 with an earn run average of 3.55.

Last time out, McKenzie allowed one run on five hits and four walks while striking out seven over a season-high five innings vs. the Reds. In his only career appearance against the Yankees, he allowed two runs in 1 2/3 innings in Game 2 of the 2020 AL Wild Card Series.
