Should Joey Baker Start For Duke Instead Of Wendell Moore Jr.?

During the 2018-2019 season Joey Baker who is now a sophomore was just a bench warmer until he was activated late in the season when Zion Williamson who is now in the NBA and a member of the New Orleans Pelicans was injured.

On the season Joey Baker who is a forward played in four games, totaling 18 minutes and scoring three points

  • Made his Duke debut on the road against Syracuse (2/23)

  • Scored his first career points by hitting a three pointer against North Dakota State in the NCAA Tournament First Round (3/22) “according to https://goduke.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/joey-baker/11769

The season is a month old now and as a sophomore he is making his contributions when he is on the court for Mike Krzyzewski who is in 4oth season as the head coach of Duke.

In Duke’s recent game against Winthrop the sophomore forward from Fayetteville North Carolina had a career-high 16 and No. 1 Duke beat Winthrop 83-70 on Friday night to bounce back from its stunning loss to Stephen F. Austin.”according to https://goduke.com/news/2019/11/29/mens-basketball-no-1-duke-tops-winthrop-83-70.aspx?path=mbball

In his sophomore season Joey Baker is making his contributions felt.

In Duke’s recent game against Winthrop Joey Baker played 23 minutes, was 6-7 on field goals that included 4-5 from three point range to go along with one rebound , 1 assists and two turnovers while his teammate Wendell Moore Jr. who is a freshman and like Joey Baker is a forward played 19 minutes and was 0-2 on field goals while collecting two rebounds, 1 assists while having two turnovers. “according to https://s3.amazonaws.com/goduke.com/documents/2019/11/29/112919_.pdf

With Wendell Moore Jr. struggling should Joey Baker replace him in the starting lineup next time out which happens to be Tuesday when Duke is in East Lansing where they will take on Michigan State in the ACC/ Big Ten Challenge ?

My answer is yes because it seems like Wendell Moore Jr. is more of a liability then a contributor when he’s on the court right now while I believe Joey Baker can contribute on a regular bases if given the minutes With that it brings me to my questions. Is Mike Krzyzewski ready to give Joey Baker the opportunity to start as well as contribute and sit Wendell Moore Jr who hasn’t contributed much as of late?
