Is Tyus Jones On His Way Out Of Minnesota?

After the 2015 season and leading Duke to a national title with a 68-63 win over Wisconsin in Indianapolis Tyus Jones was drafted by Cleveland as the twenty fourth pick before being traded during the NBA Draft to his hometown team the Minnesota Timberwolves.

During the 2018-2019 season with Minnesota Tyus Jones averaged 6.9 points per game , 2.0 rebounds per game to go along with 4.8 assists per game. “according to https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3135046/tyus-jones

But is the point guard on his way out in Minnesota and headed to Memphis?

Restricted free agent Tyus Jones has agreed to a three-year, $28 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, his agent, Kevin Bradbury of BDA Sports, told ESPN on Sunday. “according to https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27143939/tyus-jones-grizzlies-agree-28m-offer-sheet

The Minnesota Timberwolves will have two days to match the offer sheet or Jones will be a member of the Grizzlies.”according to https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27143939/tyus-jones-grizzlies-agree-28m-offer-sheet

Memphis is using most of a $9.3 million mid-level exception on Jones, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. “according to https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27143939/tyus-jones-grizzlies-agree-28m-offer-sheet

Minnesota would be roughly $750,000 to $1 million below the luxury tax if it matched the offer sheet, according to Marks. That figure includes 14 players under contract, including the partially/non-guaranteed contracts of Shabazz Napier and Treveon Graham. “according to https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27143939/tyus-jones-grizzlies-agree-28m-offer-sheet

The 23-year-old Jones averaged 6.9 points and 4.8 assists for the Timberwolves during the 2018-19 season. “according to https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27143939/tyus-jones-grizzlies-agree-28m-offer-sheet

Jones was the 24th overall pick in the 2015 draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but was traded to the Timberwolves for two second-round picks. During his career in Minnesota, he has averaged 5.1 points and 3.3 assists. “according to https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27143939/tyus-jones-grizzlies-agree-28m-offer-sheet

If he is headed out the door in Minnesota and headed to Memphis he wouldn’t be alone as he would once again be teammates with Grayson Allen who was recently traded by Utah and helped lead to Duke to a comeback win in the National Title game in Indianapolis in 2015 over Wisconsin where he scored eight straight points for Duke and Tyus Jones was named the most outstanding player.
