NC State Knocked Off Nebraska 104-100 In The ACC/ Big Ten Challenge In Four Overtimes On Wednesday Night In Raleigh Because Dereon Seabron Contributed 39 Points, 18 Rebounds

NC State knocked off Nebraska in the ACC/ Big Ten Challenge in four overtimes on Wednesday night in North Carolina’s state capital because Dereon Seabron contributed!

How?

He scored 39 points, 18 rebounds. Deron Seabron was 11-of-22 from the field and 17-of-20 from the free throw line. He also tied for the team-high with two steals.

Dereon Seabron scored 33 of his 39 points in the second half and overtimes.

The 39 points are the most-ever by a player in the 23-year history of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. It's the most points scored by an NC State player since TJ Warren had 42 against Boston College on March 9, 2014.

NC State jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first half, but a long drought in the final minutes of the opening half allowed Nebraska go into the halftime break with a 39-38 lead.

A four overtime game did not appear to be in the future in the first 10 minutes of the second half as Nebraska extended its lead, jumping out to a 14-point lead on a Kobe Webster jumper with 9:51 to play.

The Pack responded with a 14-0 run over the next 3-plus minutes tying the game on a Jericole Hellems corner three-pointer with 6:08 to go.

The rest of regulation would see neither team grab a lead larger than one possession. A Seabron free throw with five seconds left tied the game at 70 and Nebraska's game-winner was off to send the game into overtime.

The first overtime was scoreless for over four minutes until Nebraska finally scored the first points with 57 seconds left. Seabron would tie the game at 72, Nebraska answered to push the lead back to two, but Seabron was fouled at the other end with six seconds left and made both free throws to send the game to a second overtime.

Nebraska led by five, 85-80, in the second overtime with 1:44 to go, but the Pack responded with a 6-0 run taking an 86-85 lead on a Seabron lay-up with four seconds to go. Nebraska's Bryce McGowens was fouled with seconds to go and he made the first free throw to tie the game, but missed the second sending the game into a third overtime.

Nebraska again took a lead in the third overtime, leading by four with 2:14 to go in overtime, but two Thomas Allenfree throws cut the Huskers lead in half and Dowuona had a game-tying putback with five seconds left to send the game into a fourth and final overtime.

NC State never trailed in the final overtime as Terquavion Smith opened the period with a three-pointer. Seabron put the Pack up 100-95 with a driving lay-up with 44 seconds to play and NC State made enough free throws down the stretch to prevent Nebraska from getting even.

The 204 combined points between the two teams is a PNC Arena record.
