As Duke host Virginia for Big Monday match up tonight in Durham that is going to be televised on ESPN are Mike Krzyzewski, Tony Bennett opposing one another for the final time?

I would say that is a possibility!

Because Mike Krzyzewski is retiring after the 2021-2022 season!

    Why?

Mike Krzyzewski had this to say about his decision!

You might ask, 'Why are you doing this right now?' Look, this is not about health. Mickie and I, whether we look it or not -- she does -- whether I look healthy ... I am. It's not about COVID or saying, 'Boy, that year was so bad.' It's not about that. It's certainly not about what's going on with college basketball. 'Boy, the game is changing.' All right. I've been in it for 46 years. You think the game has never changed?"

He later added: "Those aren't the reasons. ... The reason we're doing this is because Mickie and I have decided the journey is going to be over in a year. And we're going to go after it as hard as we possibly can."

And Jon Scheyer who is currently Mike Krzyzewski’s Associate Head Coach is going to be the Head Coach beginning in April 2023.

Though, Duke, Virginia could possibly match up again the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Brooklyn at the home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets WNBA’s New York Liberty and maybe in the NCAA Tournament if Virginia finds a way to get there. As of the recent bracket by Joe Lunardi on espn.com Virginia isn’t in it while Duke is.

Duke is ranked 9th in the AP Top 25 Poll! Though that could change this afternoon because the new poll for week 14 of the regular season comes out.

Duke comes into the game with a record of 19-3 while they are 9-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and are in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings because they beat their tobacco road rival North Carolina 87-67 on Saturday in Chapel Hill.

In Duke’s 87-67 win over North Carolina Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski coached his final game at the Dean E. Smith Center!

As Mike Krzyzewski coached his final game in Chapel Hill from the sideline Saturday at the Dean E. Smith Center the 2021-2022 Duke team sent him out on top with an 87-67 victory.

    Why?

In Duke’s 87-67 win over North Carolina AJ Griffin scored a career high 27 points. Duke shot 58% and took all drama out of the renewal of the famed rivalry early in both halves, both in building a big lead and then stretching it back out after the Tar Heels had made a run to climb back in it. Paolo Banchero had a double double with 13 points, 10 rebounds! Wendell Moore Jr. like Paolo Banchero scored 13 points but unlike Paolo Banchero Wendell Moore Jr contributed 8 boards 5 assists.

Virginia comes into the game unranked unlike Duke and comes into the game with a record of 14-9 8-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and are sixth in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings because like Duke Virginia won their previous because they won 71-58 over Miami on Saturday. In Virginia’s 71-58 win over Miami in Charlottesville  Armaan Franklin scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting to lead Virginia (14-9, 8-5 ACC) to a 71-58 victory over the Miami Hurricanes (16-7, 8-4 ACC) at John Paul Jones Arena Saturday . With the victory, the Cavaliers earned their second consecutive win in as many tries, marking first time UVA has defeated back-to-back foes since Jan. 4.

In addition to Franklin, Jayden Gardner (12 points) and Kihei Clark (11 points) scored in double figures for the Cavaliers. Reece Beekman (9 points) was one point shy of earning a double-double after tallying a game-high 10 assists. He also added two steals. Francisco Caffaro went 4-for-4 from the field to score eight points and grabbed five rebounds. Virginia handed Miami Virginia led 35-26 at halftime after Franklin tallied 15 of the Cavaliers’ 35 points. Franklin was 6-for-9 from the field, including 3-of-5 from downtown. Miami led 10-7 early on before Franklin scored seven straight UVA points to give the Cavaliers the lead. Virginia maintained the lead for the final 13:35 of the half. A Kadin Shedrick slam followed by Franklin’s third three of the half with one second remaining put the Cavaliers up nine – its largest lead of the half. Virginia shot 62.5 percent from the field, while the Hurricanes shot 44.4 percent in the first half.

Virginia carried their momentum into the second half and never allowed Miami to regain the lead. After a pair of offensive rebounds extended a Cavalier possession, Clark drilled a 3-pointer to cap a 9-2 run with 4:33 remaining in the contest, giving UVA a 66-46 lead. The Cavaliers led by as many as 21 points (71-50) with 2:30 remaining. Miami’s best scoring run of the second was 4-0 until the final minute of play when the game was already out of reach. In the second half, Virginia was led by Gardner, who tallied 10 of his 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, and Franklin, who collected all four of his steals in the final 20 minutes of play.

Tip off is set for 7:00pm from Cameron Indoor Stadium!

The game is going to be televised on ESPN with Rece Davis, Corey Alexander commentating!
