In the inaugural of the 2022-2023 regular season each team lost a player as North Carolina lost Leaky Black, NC State lost Terquavion Smith.
North Carolina lost Leaky Black following him being administered a flagrant 2 foul following a play with 9:45 left in second half where Terquavion Smith was driving to the rim. Leaky Black missed the ball before committing the foul. Following Leaky Black was ejected from the game while Tequavion Smith remained on the hardwood as trainers attended to him before a stretcher was brought out.
