His achievement broke Steve Jones' record of 1,236 rushing yards during the 1972 season. Durant also finished the year third in rushing attempts in a single season with 255.
In the game against Miami Duke took took the game's opening drive and converted on a 40-yard field goal for an early 3-0 edge. The Hurricanes answered with a 35-yard field goal of their own to knot the score midway through the first period. Duke wasted little time trailing though as sophomore Jaylen Stinson returned the ensuing kickoff 94 yards for the score, marking his second return for a touchdown this season. Unfortunately, Miami responded with 44 consecutive points to secure the win.
Starting quarterback Gunnar Holmberg went 20-of-33 for 148 yards with one interception. Jalon Calhounand Jake Bobo led the receiving corps with 33 and 32 yards, respectively.
On defense, Da'Quan Johnson, Shaka Heyward both registered double-digit tackles. Johnson led all players with a career-high 13 tackles and one forced fumble, while Heyward chipped in with 10 tackles. Jalen Alexander added a team-best 1.5 tackles for loss to go along with his nine tackles.
Stinson's score in the first quarter marked the first time Duke had a return specialist score two touchdowns on a kickoff return since Damond Philyaw-Johnson did so in 2019.
