Miami's Trip Out West Continues In California With A Series Opener Loss To San Diego

The trip out west continued for Miami  Friday as Miami traveled to San Diego California for their series opener with San Diego which didn't end so well as Miami lost and they dropped to 8-8 on the season.

Austin Hedges capped a four-run seventh inning with a three-run home run off the third deck of the Western Metal Building Friday night. That was enough to make a winner out of Vista High School graduate Trevor Cahill in his first home start at Petco Park, as the Padres beat the Marlins, 5-3.

Both starters pitched crisp one-run ball before the Padres' bats came alive against the Miami bullpen. Wil Myers drove in the go-ahead run with a double-play grounder, before David Phelps reliever intentionally walked Yangervis Salarte. Hedges made the Marlins pay for that decision, launching a projected 430-foot shot for his fourth homer in the past week. Marcell Ozuna plated the Marlins only run off Cahill with a big fly of his own in the top of the second. He turned around a 1-1 curveball and sent it into the second deck in left field at 109 mph. The ball traveled a projected 433 feet -- the second longest at Petco Park this season. "according to http://m.marlins.mlb.com/news/article/225762644/padres-trevor-cahill-wins-in-petco-park-debut/
