Michael Pineda Looking For His Third Quality Start As He Looks To Get In The Win Column

New York right-hander Michael Pineda has had a great May so far but he doesn't have any wins to show for it. Could that win come tonight as New York takes on Kansas City in game two of their three -game set?

New York has a record of 23-13 and is coming off a 7-1 win where left -hander CC Sabathia finally got the start he was looking for while Kansas dropped to 16-22 on the season.

In his previous three starts, CC Sabathia had yielded 18 runs in 17 2/3 innings. Kansas City  provided the perfect tonic for Sabathia as he fired 6 2/3 shutout innings while giving up five hits walking two and striking out four. . CC Sabathia had this to say about his outing against Kansas City. "The cutter was a lot better today," Sabathia said. "And the guys played great defense behind me. We figured out by the second inning they were coming out hacking. We just had to make some pitches on the edges and get some quick outs." While Kansas City catcher Salvador Perez had this to say about the veteran left-hander " He can still do it. He keeps the ball down and works both sides of the plate really well. It was his night." Kansas City starter Jason Hammel meanwhile gave up nine hits to go along with five runs while pitching six innings while his earn run average also skyrocketed to 6.20.

Michael Pineda will be on the mound for New York. He has a record of 3-2 with a 3.27 earn run average to go along with fifty strikeouts. Since the calendar has flipped to May he has tossed back-to -back quality starts but has no wins this month to show for it as the right-hander has only allowed five runs in 12/2/3 innings to go along with thirteen strikeouts over his last two starts. He will go up against Kansas City left -hander Jason Vargus who has a record of 5-1 to go along with a 1.01 earn run average and thirty -nine strikeouts.  In his last outing, he threw seven shutout innings while giving up three hits while striking out four on Thursday.
