New York Avoids Getting Swept By Tampa Bay

During the weekend New York opened a three -game series with Tampa Bay which won two before veteran left -hander CC Sabathia took the mound Sunday. 

It was left -fielder Brett Gardner and 6"7 282 pounds of twenty - five-year-old rookie Aaron Judge that did the damage at the plate for New York to avoid the sweep by Tampa Bay.

New York improves to 25-16 while Tampa Bay drops to 23-23 on the season. New York returns to Yankee Stadium  Monday to start a four -game series with Kansas City.  New York right -hander Michael Pineda who has a record of 4-2 with a 3.42 earn run average is coming off a win in his last start against Kansas City where he permitted four runs three of them were earned and six hits in an 11-7 win.    Although he served up homers to Salvador Perez and  Whit Merrifield. He will go up against Kansas City left -hander Jason Vargus who has a record of 5-2 with a 2.03 earn run average. Jason Vargus is still seeking his first career win against New York. In last weeks start he allowed six runs which were the most runs he'd given up in a game this season.
