New York, Michael Pineda Pickup Right Where They Left Off As They Top Kansas City

Less than a week ago New York and Michael Pineda were going up against Kansas City and pitcher Jason Vargas but on the road as they visited Kauffman Stadium.  

Monday night though they were in a different location as they started the first of four games in the Bronx.   The result was another win for  New York by a score of 4-2  while Kansas City's Jason Vargas is still winless against New York. The New York offense had no trouble backing up Michael Pineda's start as the home run ball was working for them.

Didi Gregorius and Brett Gardner went deep off Kansas City left-hander Jason Vargas, who lost to New York for the second time in a week. Gardner put the Yanks on the board with his ninth homer in 21 games, a solo shot in the third, and Gregorius slugged a two-run shot in the fourth inning. While New York improved to 26-16 while Kansas City dropped to 18 -26 on the season.

New York and Kansas City will resume their series Tuesday with rookie left -hander Jordan Montgomery on the mound for New York. He has a record of 2-3 with a 4.81 earn run average and thirty-seven strikeouts. His leash could be getting shorter as he lost his second straight game while surrendering five runs while pitching just five innings on the road at Kauffman Stadium as Mike Moustakas hit three -run homer off the rookie. He will go up against Kansas City left-hander Danny Duffy who has a record of 3-3 with a 2.97 earn run average and forty -five strikeouts. He claimed the series finale against New York as he pitched seven scoreless innings while allowing just three hits while striking out ten batters while only walking two.
