New York's Win Streak Snapped In California By Los Angeles As CC Sabathia Exits With Hamstring Injury

Tuesday was not a good night for New York who is leading the American League East by three games over Boston as they lost to Los Angeles and had their six game winning streak snapped

Eric Young Jr. was the hero Tuesday night at Angel Stadium. The journeyman outfielder ripped a two-out, walk-off infield single in the 11th inning to lift the Angels to a 3-2 win over Yankees, snapping New York's six-game win streak. "He's a guy getting an opportunity and he's making the most of it," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of Young. "We can't say enough how he's come up clutch this week." "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236245280/eric-young-jr-leads-angels-to-win-vs-yankees/

The big hit came after  Eric Young hammered a solo home run to tie the game, 2-2, in the eighth, his second homer in three games and third since he joined the Angels when Mike Trout went on the disabled list May 29. After losing Monday's series opener on a two-run homer by Aaron Judge, Young said his game-tying blast Tuesday was the spark the Angels needed.

"To tie the game up right there in that situation let us know we're not giving up," he said. "We're going to keep fighting until the last out and see what happens."

Said Yankees manager Joe Girardi: "It's a tough way to lose a game. We had some chances, and we hit some balls hard. It seemed like the balls we hit the hardest they made plays on tonight. It's a tough loss."

Chase Headley's home run off Angels starter JC Ramirez in the seventh had broken a 1-1 tie the Yankees earned on a RBI single by Brett Gardner in the fifth. But those were the only runs Ramirez allowed over 6 2/3 innings, on five hits and three walks. The right-hander's seven strikeouts marked the most he has recorded since April 30 at Texas, and his 111 pitches were a season-high. The loss wasn't the only thing that happened Tuesday as New York veteran left -hander CC Sabathia is likely headed to the disabled list with a hamstring injury as he exited his start against Los Angeles after four innings when he felt the hamstring grab on the second to last pitch he threw to Los Angeles  catcher Martin Maldonado, who was batting when Gary Sanchez caught C.J. Cron stealing for the third out of the fourth. He was replaced by right-hander Giovanny Gallegos, the first of six relievers Girardi had to use in the extended game. New York manager Joe Girardi had this to say about CC Sabathia's injury.

"It's an issue," Girardi said of Sabathia's injury. "Obviously he's going to have to have an MRI and we'll get a timetable for it. But I anticipate it's a DL." "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

CC Sabathia said he will undergo the MRI exam here on Wednesday before the teams close the three-game series. "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

The surprising 38-24  New York Yankees have weathered injuries this year, the most notable to closerAroldis Chapman, who is nearing activation from the DL after a month out because of inflammation in his left shoulder. But the starting rotation thus far had been stable. "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

"We've had some losses this year and some guys have stepped up," Girardi said. "So, we're going to have to have somebody step up in his absence. It's not what you want because he is throwing the ball so well. And he was throwing the ball great tonight. Somebody's going to have to step up."

Sabathia had sailed through the first four innings, allowing an unearned on three hits. He walked one and struck out four and left with the score tied 1-1. "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

"It felt like it just grabbed at first," Sabathia said. "I don't think I heard a pop or anything like that. I thought I might be fine, but I went to throw the next pitch and couldn't." according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

CC Sabathia has a record of 7-2 with a 3.66 ERA had been experiencing a renaissance season. He had won his last five starts, allowing just five runs during that span. He was coming off eight innings of scoreless, five-hit ball on Wednesday night in an 8-0 victory over the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

"Yeah, this stinks," Sabathia said. "You want to be out there with the guys. You just feel bad about it. It's a tough situation." "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

It's been a tough last four seasons for the now 36-year-old Sabathia, who's in the final year of a six-year $122 million contract. He has had groin, knee and elbow injuries. And his 2013 season ended in late September with a Grade 2 strain of the left hamstring. "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

Those type of injuries are graded one to four with one the mildest. "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

Sabathia said he couldn't remember that injury enough to make a comparison. All he knew was that his leg was still sore as he answered questions at his locker after the game. There was no way of gauging at the moment the severity of the injury. "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

"It's sore. That's all I can say about it," he said. "Hopefully I'll wake tomorrow morning and it will be better." "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236244860/cc-sabathia-leaves-game-with-hamstring-injury/

Who will replace CC Sabathia in the rotation if he will be on the disabled list for an amount of time? Will Joe Girardi insert one of the pitchers in the bullpen into the rotation or will New York call up a pitcher from the minor leagues?

New York dropped to 38-24 while Los Angeles improved to 34-34 on the season.

New York and Los Angeles will finish up the series Wednesday.  Right -hander Michael Pineda will get the start in the finale for Joe Giradi.

New York has been waiting five years for right-hander Michael Pineda to develop into the starting pitcher they anticipated getting in their 2012 trade with the Mariners. He's there now heading into Wednesday's matchup against Angels right-hander Matt Shoemaker at Angel Stadium.

Michael Pineda is 7-3 with a 3.39 ERA and the Yankees are 9-3 this season in the games he has started. This comes after seasons since the 2012 trade that have been speckled with shoulder injuries and inconsistency. "according to

"It's been consistency with Michael," Yanks manager Joe Girardi said. "Last year we saw brilliance at times. But he's been more consistent and he's been able to end innings better this year." "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236243342/yankees-pineda-eye-series-win-vs-angels/

Shoemaker has arguably been the Angels' best starter in a season that has been plagued with injuries to pitchers projected for the starting rotation. "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236243342/yankees-pineda-eye-series-win-vs-angels/

He's making his 14th start and is 6-3 with a 4.22 ERA, having won five of his last six starts dating back to May 12. "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236243342/yankees-pineda-eye-series-win-vs-angels/

"I think Shoe's been our most consistent starter," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "But we've gotten terrific games from most of our rotation, but Shoe's been great. He's been getting into better counts more often. And hopefully, he's gravitating toward what we saw in the middle of last year where for about 12 starts he might have been the best pitcher in the American League." according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/236243342/yankees-pineda-eye-series-win-vs-angels/

Right -hander Michael Pineda has a record of 7-3 with a 3.39 earn run average held Boston to one unearned run and four hits over seven innings in his last outing, striking out eight. All but one of Michael Pineda's last seven starts  have been quality, Since May 5, he is 4-2 with a 3.56 earn run average in that span. He will go up against Los Angeles right -hander Matt Shoemaker who has a record of 6-3 with a 4.22 earn run average. In his last start, Shoemaker surrendered four runs on seven hits over seven innings against Houston. He is 0-2 with a 4.05 earn run average in two career starts against New York.
