Jordan Montgomery Turns In His First Shutout As New York Powers Past Toronto

This year not only did rookie Jordan Montgomery make his first major league start in pinstripes but in game three of the four-game set against Toronto he also pitched his first shutout as New York beat Toronto 7-0 Saturday.

Jordan Montgomery limited Toronto's  offense to three doubles over six innings, with the 24-year-old rookie twice pitching out of jams while throwing a career-high 103 pitches. Meanwhile left-fielder Brett Gardner started the home run barrage in the eighth off Jason Grilli -- with Holliday, Castro, and Gregorius going deep consecutively. The Blue Jays were denied an opportunity to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season. New York who is leading the American League East improved to 32-21 on the season while Toronto dropped to 27-29 on the season. New  York and Toronto will finish up their four-game series on Sunday. 

New York right -hander Luis Severino will get the start for New York. He has a record of 4-2 with a 2.93 earn run average. Severino was strong in his last outing against Baltimore allowing one run over six innings. Opposing batters haven't taken him deep in any of his last four starts but Toronto as a team are hitting .348 against him. He will go up against Toronto right -hander Marcus Stroman who has a record of 6-2 with a 3.28 earn run average who is enjoying a fine season but he needs to start eating up some more innings, Stroman hasn't gone more than six innings since April 28th, but he's allowed two runs or fewer in eight of his eleven starts.
