Jordan Montgomery Looks To Follow Up His Stellar Outing As New York Takes On Baltimore

Jordan Montgomery will look to follow up his stellar outing against Toronto with another one as New York welcomes  Baltimore to Yankee Stadium for a three -game series Friday.

This year not only did rookie Jordan Montgomery make his first major league start in pinstripes but in game three of the four-game set against Toronto he also pitched his first shutout as New York beat Toronto 7-0 Saturday.

Jordan Montgomery turned in the first scoreless outing of his young career before Matt Holliday, Starlin Castro and Didi Gregorius launched late back-to-back-to-back homers, "accordinghttp://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/234071056/yankees-jordan-montgomery-leads-win-over-jays/

Jordan Montgomery limited Toronto's  offense to three doubles over six innings, with the 24-year-old rookie twice pitching out of jams while throwing a career-high 103 pitches. Toronto shortstopTroy Tulowitzki's error opened the door for Aaron Hicks and Aaron Judge to rap back-to-back RBI doubles in the third inning, charging a pair of unearned runs to starter Joe Biagini. Shortstop Didi Gregorius also lifted a soft RBI double in the seventh off Biagini, who permitted three runs (one earned) and four hits over seven innings. Meanwhile left-fielder Brett Gardner started the home run barrage in the eighth off Jason Grilli -- with Holliday, Castro, and Gregorius going deep consecutively. New York is coming off winning the series against their American League East rival Boston Thursday.

It wasn't so long ago that David Price played for  Tampa Bay and Detroit and now Boston for the last two seasons. New York still owns David Price each time he steps on the mound and that didn't change Thursday night in the finale of the two rivals that are one and two in the American League standings.

Gary Sanchez cracked two homers off David Price, and Michael Pineda struck out eight over seven dominant innings as the Yankees defeated the Red Sox, 9-1, on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium, taking two of three games in a showdown of American League East rivals. The win was New York's ' fourth in five meetings with the Red Sox this year, increasing their lead over second-place Boston to three games. Sanchez hit a three-run homer in the third inning and added a two-run drive in the fifth off Price, who came into the outing with controversy swirling. Following Wednesday's 8-0 Boston loss, Price had an outburst with a reporter that Red Sox manager John Farrell said would be "handled" after the left-hander took the mound. Price's mood wasn't likely to improve after he was thumped for six runs and eight hits in five innings." according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/235262728/gary-sanchezs-2-hrs-help-yanks-beat-red-sox/

David Price had this to say about his outing. I didn't have a very good changeup tonight," said Price. "It was kind of the opposite changeup I had in Baltimore. Felt good with my fastball on both sides of the plate. I just didn't make enough pitches whenever I needed to." according to tohttp://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/235262728/gary-sanchezs-2-hrs-help-yanks-beat-red-sox/

Left -fielder Brett Gardner meanwhile also got in on the action for New York as he drove in a run against Price, who has lost four straight starts at Yankee Stadium dating back to last season, having allowed 21 runs in 21 2/3 innings (8.72 ERA) in that span. Gardner later added his 13th homer, second on the team to Aaron Judge (18). "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/235262728/gary-sanchezs-2-hrs-help-yanks-beat-red-sox/

Boston manager John Farrell had this to say about New York"Big power bats," Red Sox manager John Farrell said of Sanchez and Judge. "You make a mistake, they make you pay. Particularly, two right-handers who can use the other side of the field as well as they can in the short porch, they're dangerous here." "according to http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/235262728/gary-sanchezs-2-hrs-help-yanks-beat-red-sox/

New York right -hander Michael Pineda had this to say about how he performed"This is what you're working hard for every day, to have a good season and help the team," Pineda said. "Right now, every five days, I'm trying to help my team and win the game. Everything right now looks good so I'm happy with that." Baltimore meanwhile has a record of 31-27 and is coming off a 6-1 loss to Washington Thursday.

After pitching to a combined 14.14 ERA in his past two starts, Nationals right-hander Joe Ross broke out of his slump against the Orioles on Thursday night. Ross allowed one run and recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings to lead the Nationals to a 6-1 win at Nationals Park in a makeup of a May 11 rainout. "according to http://m.orioles.mlb.com/news/article/235202584/nats-joe-ross-fans-12-os-in-makeup-game/?topicId=27118142

Ross returned from the Minor Leagues about three weeks ago after improving his arm slot. He had a tough time in two of his three starts since but likely sealed his spot as the team's No. 5 starter with this performance, receiving a standing ovation as he exited. He credited his improved command to slowing down between pitches and not getting overwhelmed in pressure situations.

"He was real calm, and we are all proud of him," Nationals manager Dusty Baker said. "That's the Joe Ross we've been waiting for."

Washington stole five bases behind Ross, led by Trea Turner who swiped a career-high three while hitting 3-for-4 and scoring two runs. Turner began the Nationals' four-run rally in the first inning by scoring after stealing two bases, while Stephen Drew notched his first two hits since returning from the disabled list on May 29 -- one of which was a solo home run in the fifth inning." according to http://m.orioles.mlb.com/news/article/235202584/nats-joe-ross-fans-12-os-in-makeup-game/?topicId=27118142..

Will Jordan Montgomery through another shutout? Will he have another excellent outing like he did in Toronto? Will he not give up three runs like he did his last time out against Baltimore? Will he last more than 4/1/3 innings this go around against Baltimore? Will New York be able to get runs off Dylan Bundy?

First pitch is set for 7:35 pm. The game will be televised on MASN and Major League Baseball Network. "according to https://www.mlb.com/gameday/orioles-vs-yankees/2017/06/09/491005#game_state=preview,game_tab=,game=491005
