As for New York's previous game, they edged Baltimore on Saturday at Camden Yards.

Miguel Andujar and Giancarlo Stanton supplied the thunder, each cracking a two-run homer in support of Masahiro Tanaka as the Yankees weathered threatening storm clouds and reached a new season high water mark in an 8-5 victory over the Orioles on Saturday afternoon at Camden Yards. New York (37-17) improved to a season-high 20 games over .500, securing its sixth win in eight games. Following a delay due to the threat of inclement weather, Andujar hit his sixth homer and Stanton connected for his 12th off Kevin Gausman before the Orioles committed errors on three consecutive plays in a sloppy sixth inning, with Baltimore falling for the seventh straight contest. "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

"I helped the team," said Andujar, whose 26 extra-base hits lead all Major League rookies and rank second on the Yankees only to Aaron Judge (29). "When I go to home plate, I go with my plan and try to hit the ball hard. I feel really excited to be here and be part of this team. I help my team to win. I feel excited for that." "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

Adam Jones, Joey Rickard and Manny Machado homered off Tanaka, who is now tied for third in the Majors with 15 homers allowed, but the blasts were all of the solo variety. The righty held the O's to four runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings, improving to 7-2. "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

Tanaka walked one and struck out seven in a 97-pitch effort, limiting traffic on the basepaths until he appeared to tire in the sixth inning. "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

"I feel like I made some quality pitches," Tanaka said through an interpreter. "I gave up three home runs today, and that's kind of been the thing for me. I feel like I need to do a better job of that." "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

New York's lead swelled in the sixth, as second baseman Jonathan Schoop threw away a potential double-play ball and center fielder Jones committed two errors, one on a bobble and one on a throw, setting up run-scoring singles for Didi Gregorius and Aaron Hicks. "according thttps://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-50 "accordoing to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

"It's always good to take advantage," Hicks said. "Just keep it going, keep scoring runs and keep collecting wins." "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

Gausman was done after 5 1/3 innings, having allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits. He walked none and struck out nine. Baltimore threatened in the home half of the frame, as Schoop raked a one-out single and Trey Mancini walked, drawing manager Aaron Boone from the visiting dugout. "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

Jonathan Holder entered and struck out the first man he faced, but Danny Valencia cashed the fourth O's run with a double to left. Holder escaped by retiring Chance Sisco on a flyout that sent left fielder Brett Gardner racing back toward the wall. Hicks and Andujar contributed run-scoring hits in the eighth off Mychal Givens to pad the Yanks' lead. MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Boone said that he was particularly impressed by Andujar's plate discipline in the second inning, digging out an 0-2 splitter from Gausman and slugging the ball 399 feet over the wall in left field, as projected by Statcast™. The blast gave the Yankees the lead, and they would not trail again. "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

"More really good at-bats from him, obviously," Boone said. "To ride a two-strike split out of the ballpark off a guy with a good split, that was a really good swing he put on that ball. Miggy just continues to give us some quality at-bats and some thunder down at the bottom." "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500

SOUND SMART
Hicks' bat has warmed up over his past 13 games, as the switch-hitter has tallied 17 hits in 50 at-bats (.340) with three doubles, a triple, two homers and eight RBIs. Saturday marked his second straight multi-hit game, and in 19 road games, Hicks is batting .352 (25-for-71) with 10 extra-base hits./c-279534734 "according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-top-os-move-to-20-games-over-500/c-279534734

As for Detroit's previous game, They lost to Toronto.

The Tigers' Rally Goose was Smoaked on Sunday. It is not yet cooked. "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

Michael Fulmer might be able to relate at this point, even with his feathers ruffled. The All-Star and Tigers ace wasn't perfect with his adjustments after his struggles last start prompted a thorough self-analysis. But he was better, and for five-plus innings, he kept the Tigers in a low-scoring duel with Aaron Sanchez. "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

And as manager Ron Gardenhire took the ball from a frustrated Fulmer with two on and nobody out in the seventh, he made sure Fulmer knew that. "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

"I told him, 'You threw the crap out of the ball,'" Gardenhire said. "He did his job. He got us into the seventh inning. He gave us an opportunity in that ballgame, and that's what you want him to do." "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

After the Angels knocked him out in the fourth inning Tuesday, Fulmer said he was embarrassed. More importantly, he said he needed to command fastballs down in the zone and worry less about drawing swing-and-misses. On Sunday, he pounded Blue Jays hitters with it. Forty-eight of his 61 pitches through five scoreless innings were fastballs, either two- or four-seamers. The rest were sliders."according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

The fastballs, sinking and otherwise, averaged better than 95 mph, topping out just shy of 98. "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

"Hitting 97 isn't easy, especially when it's sinking and running the way that his fastball does," McCann said. "That was impressive today. He came out and said, 'Here you go, hit it.' He had a lot of success until the sixth, seventh inning." "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/

Fulmer didn't throw a changeup until his third trip through the Blue Jays' order. He dared Toronto's hitters to lift his sinker. One line-drive single and two fly-ball outs through the first five innings were evidence that they couldn't. "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

"Sinker was working finally," Fulmer said, "Getting my mechanics back to where they were a couple years ago, to where the sinker was actually sinking instead of running -- less balls in the air." "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

The way the Tigers have been playing this homestand, that seemingly should've been enough, keeping Detroit in position for the rallies that have consistently arrived this week. But Sanchez (3-5), who has had his own struggles this season, delivered a reminder why Toronto wasn't willing to include him in David Price trade talks with Detroit in 2015. He retired his first seven hitters to nestle in for six innings of two-hit, one-run ball. Sanchez struck out seven in his first victory -- and his longest outing -- since April 30. "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

By the time the Tigers' offense rallied, the Blue Jays had soared ahead. Justin Smoak -- a native of Goose Creek, S.C. -- was a big reason. "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

Fulmer (2-5) had two outs in the sixth and a 1-2 count on Yangervis Solarte, who fouled off a pair of 97-mph fastballs out of the zone to stay alive for a walk. Fulmer went with all fastballs against Smoak, who drew a 3-0 count before getting a full-count heater over the plate and sending it 421 feet to right-center field."according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

"When you fall behind a guy 3-0, you have to throw him a fastball to the plate," Fulmer said."according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

Smoak added an RBI ground-rule double during a four-run seventh off Fulmer and Warwick Saupold, leaving Fulmer with four runs on five hits over six-plus innings."according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Fulmer gets hook in seventh: After a leadoff single in the seventh, Fulmer had a 1-2 count on Russell Martin, whom he tried to finish off with sliders to get his pitches back down. Martin declined to chase them, leading Gardenhire out of the dugout with a hook and a call for Saupold, who yielded four hits in a six-batter stretch."according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980

"I could've left him out there at 90 pitches," Gardenhire said, "but I didn't want to do that. We've seen that kind of fall apart and I didn't want to see that happen. Unfortunately, [Saupold] came in and gave up his runs." "according to https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/michael-fulmer-throws-6-solid-innings-in-loss/c-279608980
