Giancarlo Stanton Is Returning To The Injured List

Giancarlo Stanton has spent very little time on the diamond this regular season for New York because of different injuries the left-fielder has sustained throughout the season.

Giancarlo Stanton is headed back to the injured list and will miss the London Series against the Red Sox on Saturday and Sunday. Stanton, who exited Tuesday’s 4-3 win after injuring his right knee on a slide, has a sprain of the posterior cruciate ligament in the knee, the team announced after Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Blue Jays. Manager Aaron Boone added that Stanton will be re-evaluated in 10 days, meaning his stint is certain to last longer than the minimum length. “according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/giancarlo-stanton-leaves-game-early

Boone said before the game that Stanton had come in feeling sore and stiff and was getting treatment, but there was still more evaluation to be done. The injured-list stint comes as a result of that evaluation.”according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/giancarlo-stanton-leaves-game-early

“[I’m] frustrated for him, knowing how much he’s worked to get back and the couple of setbacks that he’s had along the way in getting back,” Boone said. “It felt like he was starting to get in the groove a little bit with us. So, we have to deal with it, and hopefully get him right here at some point to get back.” “according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/giancarlo-stanton-leaves-game-early

Stanton, who played in just six games after returning from a lengthy stint on the IL that began on April 1, will be replaced on the 25-man roster by Mike Tauchman. Thairo Estrada will serve as New York's 26th man for the London Series, and Kyle Higashioka and Chance Adams will be standby additions.”according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/giancarlo-stanton-leaves-game-early

Stanton sustained the injury while running the bases in the bottom of the first inning on Tuesday. He reached on a first-inning single, then was tagged out at third base on the back end of a double play as he dove headfirst into the bag.”according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/giancarlo-stanton-leaves-game-early

Replays showed that Stanton banged his knee onto the infield dirt, but he remained in the game to play the outfield in the second and third innings. Brett Gardner replaced Stanton for the top of the fourth inning. “according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/giancarlo-stanton-leaves-game-early

The London Series games will be played on a turf field, but Boone said that wasn't too big of a factor in placing Stanton on the IL, as the field is expected to play like Tampa Bay or Toronto. “according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/giancarlo-stanton-leaves-game-early

“This is a great player, important to our club, and obviously when he’s going well, he’s one of those rare guys that can impact the game in a profound way,” Boone said of Stanton’s presence and how important it is to get him healthy. “according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/giancarlo-stanton-leaves-game-early
