With The Emergence Of Gio Urshela Will New York Trade Miguel Andujar?
We’ve hardly seen Miguel Andujar on the diamond this season because he had season ending shoulder surgery.
With that being said it has been Gio Urshela who has received most of the playing time at third base for New York this season and he has exceeded expectations as the third baseman contributes offensively as well as defensively on the diamond.
In New York’s opener against Toronto at the Rogers Centre on Thursday Gio Urshela made his presence felt offensively as the third baseman hit two home runs to go along with four runs batted in. “according to newyork.yankees.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=nyy#playerType=ALL&elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2019&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'§ionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1565359300283&timeframe=d1&split=&last_x_days=1
Which brings me to my question. With Gio Urshela flourishing in pinstripes and contributing to this team on a daily bases what do they do with Miguel Andujar? In the off-season does New York trade the third baseman who had season ending surgery or in the spring of 2020 does Aaron Boone let Gio Urshela and Miguel Andujar battle it out in spring training to become New York’s starting third baseman?
These questions are yet to be answered but hopefully will be answered down the road during the off-season.
