Luis Severino To Join New York's Rotation When He Returns
Last week I wrote an article titled What Will Luis Severino’s Role Be When He Returns?
Well, Today that question was answered.
The flamethrowing right-hander is expected to make his season debut on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, starting the series opener against the Angels, manager Aaron Boone said Thursday. “according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/luis-severino-returns-for-yankees
Severino has been out all year due to right shoulder rotator cuff inflammation and a Grade 2 lat strain. He will join the Yankees in Toronto this weekend before making his start Tuesday when the team returns home. “according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/luis-severino-returns-for-yankees
The 25-year-old made three rehab starts, the last one on Wednesday for Double-A Trenton. That was the final box to check in his recovery. “according to https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/luis-severino-returns-for-yankees
Severino pitched 3 2/3 innings on Wednesday, allowing five hits and four runs (one earned) with four strikeouts. Before that, he threw three-plus innings for Trenton last Friday and one inning at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 1.
In a season rife with injuries to their star players, the Yankees are getting their ace back just in time for the playoffs. Severino went 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA and 220 strikeouts in 191 1/3 innings last year in his second straight All-Star season for New York. Despite a rocky second half, he recovered to make a strong start in the Yankees' win over the A's in the AL Wild Card Game, although he struggled against the Red Sox in the ALDS.
Luis Severino will join a rotation that already includes Masahiro Tanaka , James Paxton , J.A. Happ , CC Sabathia and Domingo German who has taken the spot of Luis Severino for the majority of the season and done quite well I might add as the right -hander has a record of 17-4. “according to https://www.mlb.com/player/domingo-german-593334
