Gerrit Cole Is Finalist For Cy Young Award!

During the 2021 season Gerrit Cole’s second season in New York’s starting rotation Gerrit Cole who is a right handed pitcher finished with a record of 16-8 with an earn run average of 3.23.

Though his season didn’t conclude the way he wanted!

Because he struggled in the American League Wild Card Game that he started for New York, for the team that wears the pinstripes, for the team he grew up rooting for as a kid in Newport Beach California!

Why?

Gerrit Cole recorded just six outs and departed with New York, the team that wears the pinstripes  trailing, 3-0, matching the shortest start of his career.

Though Gerrit Cole recorded just six outs Gerrit Cole in New York’s 6-2 Wild Card loss to Boston who like them is a member of the American League East Gerrit Cole is a finalist for the Cy Young Award!

Gerrit Cole presented one of the toughest matchups for opponents, recording 243 strikeouts against 41 walks in 181 1/3 innings.

Though, a hamstring injury hindered Cole’s effectiveness down the stretch, allowing the Blue Jays’ Robbie Ray to close the gap in the hardware chase. Cole appeared to have a clear advantage on Sept. 1, when he bested the Angels in Anaheim to improve to 14-6 with a 2.73 ERA in 25 starts.

Gerrit Cole isn’t the only Cy Young Award finalist though Robbie Ray of Toronto, Lance Lynn of the Chicago Whitesox is as well.

This season for Toronto who like New York is a member of the American League East Robbie Ray finished the season with a record of 13-7 with an earn run average of 2.84.

Lance Lynn of the Chicago Whitesox finished with a record of 11-6 with an earn run average of 2.69.
