Are Gerrit Cole and Hyun Jin Ryu going to be able to start today’s Opening Day Game for New York and Toronto in Bronx New York?

The right handed pitcher and the left handed pitcher are supposed to be starting today’s Opening Day game for New York and Toronto to begin their three game series but will they have the opportunity to do that or will they have to oppose each other on their day off on Friday or will New York and Toronto have to play a split doubleheader on Saturday?

I would say both or either of those scenario’s are likely!

Why?

Because you can’t control mother nature and today there is a 49% chance of rain during the afternoon!

Where?

Bronx New York!

But if Gerrit Cole and Hyun Jin Ryu do get the opportunity to start today Gerrit Cole is starting his second Opening Day assignment as the Yankees’ ace.. In his inaugural season in New York last year Gerrit Cole finished his inaugural season with New York with a record of 7-3 with an earn run average of 2.84. Hyun Jin Ryu opens as Toronto’s undisputed ace, coming off a 2.69 ERA in 2020. He's built up close to 90 pitches in Spring Training, too, so the veteran lefty should be free to stretch deep into this Opening Day matchup against the Yankees. “according to Baseball Probable Pitchers | MLB.com

Why?

No. 6 prospect Orelvis Martinez launched his first spring homer -- a 415-foot blast off of Phillies reliever Héctor Neris in the sixth inning. Martinez is still just 19, having signed with the Blue Jays in 2018 for $3.5 million out of the Dominican Republic. When he finally gets into full-season ball this summer, Martinez should produce the numbers to back up his MLB Pipeline prospect ranking. He has some of the best raw power in the club's farm system.

First pitch is set for 1:05pm from Yankee Stadium!

The game is going to be televised on ESPN, SNET and Yes!
