Gerrit Cole, Kyle Higashioka , Relievers Lead New York To Win Over Toronto In Opener

Gerrit Cole, Kyle Higashioka and the bullpen led New York to a 3-1 win over Toronto in the opening game of their three game series!

When?

Last night!

Where?

Dunedin Florida!

How?

Gerrit Cole retired the final fifteen batters he faced but his start verses Toronto didn’t start out that way!

Why?

Two hits, a wild pitch and a run-scoring groundout produced the first run of the game against Cole, who settled in during his second inning. He did not permit a baserunner after Rowdy Tellez’s single in the second inning, walking one and striking out eight in the 98-pitch effort.

Offensively Gerrit Cole was supported by Kyle Hiashioka!

How?

Kyle Hiashioka homered 416 feet to right center field the ball came off his bat at 104.7 mph.

Then,

Kyle Hiashioka added another home run in the eighth inning off Ryan Borucki, giving him the third multihomer game of his career.

As for New York’s relievers coming out of the bullpen Aroldis Chapman, Darren O’Day and Justin Wilson did their part.

How?

They contributed three scoreless innings in relief of Gerrit Cole who started the game for New York!

New York and Toronto are now going to play game two of their three game series.

When?

Tonight!

Where?

Dunedin Florida where Jameson Taillon who is right handed pitcher is going to start for New York and Hyun Jin Ryu who unlike Jameson Taillon is a left handed pitcher is going to start for Toronto.

Jameson Taillon comes into the game with a record of 0-0 with an earn run average of 3.86.Jameson Taillon is coming off his first start since May 1, 2019, limiting the Orioles to two solo homers among three hits over 4 2/3 innings. Taillon has revamped his arsenal, scrapping his two-seamer in favor of elevated four-seam fastballs. Hyun Jin Ryu comes into the game with a record of 0-1 with an earn run average of 2.92. Pitching on five days' rest, Ryu looks to continue his assertion as Toronto's ace. He pitched seven strong innings last time out vs. Texas on Wednesday, fanning seven and allowing two runs, but he's still looking for his first win of the season.

First pitch is set for 7:07pm from TD Ballpark!

The game is going to be televised on SNET-1 and Yes!
