Gerrit Cole Struggles As New York Loses As Texas Wins The Opening Game Of The Four Game Series In Arlington

It’s not often that you see one of Major League Baseball’s elite pitchers struggle or have a bad outing but last night in the opening game of the four game series between New York, Texas that was the case in New York’s 5-2 loss to Texas!

Where?

Arlington Texas!

For who?

Gerrit Cole who is a right handed starting pitcher for New York struggled.

Why?

Adolis García and Willie Calhoun homered off Gerrit Cole.

Texas collected three runs in the second inning off Gerrit Cole, with García launching his 11th homer before Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Jose Trevino stroked RBI hits.

Then Adolis Garcia ripped a single on Cole’s 89th pitch and later scored on a double steal that included a throwing error by catcher Kyle Higashioka.

Gerrit Cole had this to say about his start verses Texas I felt that I could certainly keep us in the ballgame and I was shooting to get through six, but I think Aaron had probably seen enough,” Cole said. “We’ll just have to get better.”

While New York’s offense wasn’t much help either on a night when Gerrit Cole struggled!

Why?

Because the New York offense only scored two runs!

When?

In the first inning on Gio Urshela’s single and in the eighth inning Luke Voit

Meanwhile,

Texas won the opening game of the four game series!

When?

Last night by a score of 5-2!

Where?

Arlington Texas!

Why?

Texas’ offense scored more runs against New York than it did in five of the six games during the losing streak, including solo home runs from Adolis García and Willie Calhoun.

Against who?

Gerrit Cole Willie Calhoun hitting a two-strike double to kick off the bottom of the first inning. A three-run second inning, highlighted by García’s home run, powered the Rangers to an early lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Tonight New York, Texas are supposed game two of their four game series

Jameson Taillon, Mike Foltynewicz who are both right handed pitchers are supposed to start the game for New York, Texas.

Jameson Taillon comes into the game with a record of 1-3 with an earn run average of 5.40.

Jameson Taillon will go for his second win of the season against the Rangers, whom he has faced only once in his career. In May 2019, he picked up a victory for the Pirates after throwing 6 1/3 innings with four runs allowed (three earned).

Mike Foltynewicz like Jameson Taillon comes into the game with a record of 1-3 but unlike Jameson Taillon Mike Foltynewicz comes into the game with an earn run average of 4.60.

Mike Foltynewicz is not back to All-Star form just yet, but he has slowly become one of the more consistent pieces of the Rangers' rotation. In his last start against the Astros, he didn't allow a home run for the second time this season, though he took a no-decision.

But could mother nature be an issue!

That is a possibility!

Why?

Because there is a 34% chance of rain at first pitch but that won’t be a problem for game two of the four game series.

Why?

Because Globe Life Park has a retractable roof. The 5.5 acre retractable roof is one of the most prominent features of Globe Life Field and will provide shade and cooler temperature 365 days a year, keeping the average temperature in the mid-70’s. It is the largest single-panel operable roof in the world and weighs 24 million pounds. The roof is comprised by a white rubber membrane on the north and south sloped planes, and the flat center is covered with 223 clear panels made of ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene), a transparent plastic polymer related material, allowing for natural light to fill the entire facility. The roof structure consists of five steel trusses and tie-in steel between each truss, and its construction required 19,000 tons of steel. The roof can open in approximately 12 minutes.
