Jordan Montgomery Was Phenomenal As Gleyber Torres Provided The Offense, New York Turned Triple Play, Topped Chicago White Sox

Jordan Montgomery was phenomenal in the first game of the three game series verses the Chicago White Sox.

How phenomenal?

Jordan Montgomery tossed seven dazzling frames, settling for a no-decision as the lefty extended the Bombers’ scoreless streak to 29 consecutive innings.

Gleyber Torres provided the offense for New York!

How?

Gleyber Torres broke a scoreless tie clearing the short right-field porch with an opposite-field home run facing reliever Michael Kopech and produced a walk-off hit .

How?

Gleyber Torres lashed a deciding single into left field, securing a 2-1 victory over the White Sox.

And then New York turned a triple play!

When?

In the ninth inning as closer Aroldis Chapman appeared in danger of permitting his first earned run of the season.

Aroldis Chapman issued a leadoff walk to Yermín Mercedes and committed an error fielding a sacrifice-bunt attempt, with pinch-runner Billy Hamilton advancing to second base as Leury García reached safely.

Urshela’s quick thinking helped turn three, reacting instinctively on Andrew Vaughn’s hard grounder to the left side of the infield. Urshela gloved the ball, stepped on third and fired to Rougned Odor at second base. Odor completed the turn with a strike to first baseman Voit.

Today New York, Chicago White Sox are going to play game two of their three game series.

Where?

Bronx New York where two right handed pitchers are going to start the game for New York, Chicago White Sox.

Why?

Because Gerrit Cole is going to start for New York, Dylan Cease is going to start for the Chicago Whitesox.

Gerrit Cole comes into the game with a record of 5-2 with an earn run average of 2.03.

Why?

Gerrit Cole had an uncharacteristic start Monday against the Rangers, allowing five runs in five innings for just his second loss of the year. It was his shortest outing and most runs allowed this season, and he will look to prove that was merely an aberration.

Dylan Cease comes into the game with a record of 2-0 with an earn run average of 2.41.

In parts of three seasons, the right-hander has never pitched at Yankee Stadium or even faced the Yankees. Cease only has two career starts against the American League East. He has fanned 50 batters over 41 innings in 2021.
