Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon Have Been Reunited In New York's Starting Rotation

For two seasons Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon were apart of the same starting rotation!

Why?

Because they were in Pittsburgh’s starting rotation in 2016 and 2017!

In 2016 Gerrit Cole finished with a record of 7-10 with an earn run average of 3.88.

In 2017 Gerrit Cole finished with a record of 12-12 with an earn run average of 4.26

In 2017 Jameson Taillon finished with a record of 8-7 with an earn run average of 4.44.

After the 2017 season Gerrit Cole was apart of Houston’s starting rotation for two seasons.

When?

In 2018 and 2019!

In 2018 Gerrit Cole finished the season with a record of 15-5 with an earn run average of 2.88

In 2019 Gerrit Cole finished the season with a record of 20-5 with an earn run average of 2.50

Then Gerrit Cole signed a nine year $324 Million dollar deal to become a member of the team he grew up rooting for!

When?

In December of 2019!

Then New York got Jameson Taillon from Pittsburgh!

When?

On January 24, 2021 when they traded prospects for Jameson Taillon who like Gerrit Cole is a right handed pitcher.

Those prospects included Miguel Yajure (Yankees' No. 15 prospect per MLB Pipeline), RHP Roansy Contreras (No. 19), OF Canaan Smith (No. 21), SS Maikol Escotto

When Jameson Taillon got traded he shared his thoughts on what it would be like to be reunited with Gerrit Cole and pitch in the same starting rotation as him again and this is what he had to say!

I told Gerrit, ‘Dude, I want to run it back with you now,’” Taillon told MLB.com on Sunday. "I'm at a different place in my life. You’re at a different place in your life. We never got that full chance to do it together.’ It’s crazy how the world, and the baseball world specifically, works. But we now have that chance.”

Since then when Gerrit Cole isn’t on the mound dominating the opponent and Jameson Taillon is Gerrit Cole is on the top step of the dugout watching Jameson Taillion’s start breaking down his start supporting him during his start and in between innings when Jameson Taillon is in the dugout while the opposing pitcher is pitching Gerrit Cole is asking him questions like How is your start going? What adjustments do you think you can make?

Jameson Taillon certainly has made some adjustments!

Why?

In his start on June 24, 2021 Jameson Taillon tied his season high by navigating 6 1/3 innings, scattering five hits. He was touched only by Sebastian Rivero’s run-scoring double in the fifth inning -- the rookie catcher’s first Major League hit.

And I am sure in his next start Jameson Taillon will continue to make adjustments while Gerrit Cole will continue to support Jameson Taillon who was his teammate in Pittsburgh and is now his teammate in New York and I’m sure Jameson Taillon will do the same for Gerrit Cole when he starts!

Why?

Because Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon are teammates and supporting each other is what teammates do!
