The New York Yankees who are a member of the American League East come into the opening game of the three game series with a record of 78-62!

Why?

Because they’ve lost six straight games that included them getting swept by Toronto in Bronx New York!

In the finale the New York Yankees lost to the Toronto who like them are a member of the American League East by a score of 6-4!

Anthony Rizzo provided half the offense with a two-run blast in the sixth, but he failed to capitalize two innings later in a two-on, none-out situation with New York trailing by two. Rizzo hit into a fielder’s choice, and Giancarlo Stanton followed with an inning-ending double play.

New York did hit a pair of solo homers in the ninth, but that did little to change the narrative around this offense right now. Since the 13-game win streak ended, the Yankees are batting .212 and averaging 3.3 runs per game.

Most notably, they’re lacking their trademark Bronx Bomber pop: Toronto won the home run battle in a landslide this series, 11-4.

The New York Mets who unlike the New York Yankees are a member of the National League East come into the game with a record of 70-71!

Why?

Because they lost to Miami by a score of 3-2 last night in Miami Florida.

Wasted opportunities were the downfall of the Mets, as the Marlins' Jazz Chisholm Jr. clubbed a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning off Mets reliever Jeurys Familia in a 3-2 loss at loanDepot park on Thursday night.

The night before that the New York Mets lost by a score of 1-2 in an extra inning game!

This series between the New York Yankees, New York Mets has Wild Card implications!

Why?

Because both New York teams are fighting for a postseason berth!

The New York Yankees are currently in the second Wild Card spot though last night they lost their sixth straight game to Toronto who is 0.5 games back in the Wild Card standings after sweeping the New York Yankees who like them are a member of the American League East.

The New York Mets are currently 5.0 games back in the Wild Card standings.
