New York swept Cleveland in day, night doubleheader Saturday in Cleveland Ohio winning 13-4 in game 1 winning 6-1 in game 2.
In game 1 of the doubleheader on Saturday that was a make up from July 1,2022 because of rain Gerrit Cole who started the game for New York gave up back to back home runs in the bottom of the second inning as Josh Naylor homered to right center 415 feet to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead then Jose Reyes extended Cleveland’s lead by a score of 2-0 homering to right 370 feet. From there until the bottom of the 7th inning though it was all New York because in the top of the 3rd inning DJ Lemahieu homered to right 379 feet to get New York with in 1 run of Cleveland cutting the deficit to 2-1 Though, that wasn’t all that happened in the top of the 3rd inning as Miguel Andujar who was the 27th player for the doubleheader singled to left scoring Aaron Judge tying up the game at 2-2. Then Aaron Hicks singled to right scoring Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar extending New York’s lead over Cleveland 4-2 . Then the top of the 6th inning Matt Carpenter homered to right 380 feet scoring Aaron Hicks extending New York’s lead to 6-2. Though, that wasn’t all happened in the top of the 6th inning as Gleyber Torres singled to left scoring DJ Lemahieu , Aaron Judge extending New York’s lead over Cleveland by a score of 8-2 . Then in top of the 7th New York lead over Cleveland was extended yet again. This time, by a score of 9-2 as Matt Carpenter singled to right scoring Miguel Andujar 10-2 as Jose Trevino grounded into fielders choice third, second to first scoring Aaron Hicks. Then in the bottom of the 7th inning Myles Straw grounded into fielders choice to third scoring Andres Gimenez to get Cleveland on board again cut the deficit to 10-3. Then Steven Kwan grounded to shortstop for Cleveland scoring Richie Palacios. Though that was all Cleveland would score as New York would go on to score once in the top of the 8th inning twice in the top of the 9th inning. In the top of the 8th inning Gleyber Torres grounded into fielders choice to Cleveland shortstop Gabriel Arias scoring DJ Lemahieu while Aaron Judge was called out at third base. . In the top of the 9th inning New York score twice via the home run as Matt Carpenter would homer to right 4-11 feet to extend New York’s lead 12-4 as Jose Trevino would homer to left 394 feet 12-2 In game 2 of the doubleheader New York won 6-1 though Amed Rosario would put Cleveland on the scoreboard first homering to right center 388 feet giving Cleveland a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning before Anthony Rizzo would tie up the game at 1-1 homering to center field 409 feet. Then in the top of the 4th inning Giancarlo Stanton would homer to right center 432 feet giving New York a 2-1 lead . From there it was all New York offensively as they scored three times in the top of the 7th inning as Josh Donaldson would double to deep left scoring Anthony Rizzo advancing Giancarlo Stanton to third base extending New York’s lead to 3-1 . Then Isiah Kiner -Falefa would singled to right scoring Miguel Andujar extending New York’s lead to 5-1 Then Kyle Higashioka hit sacrifice fly to left scoring Joey Gallo.

New York manager Aaron Boone had this to say after New York swept Cleveland in the day, night doubleheader in Cleveland Ohio!
“I feel like they handle wins and losses well, but I also think they get pissed off when they lose, too. They take it a little bit personally, flush it and then get over it. It’s not like it lingers or anything, but they’re ticked off. They’ve had that ‘don’t give anything’ [mindset].”
Gerrit Cole who pitched, started game 1 of the doubleheader had this to say about game 1 of the doubleheader in Cleveland Ohio “That’s where our ability just to come out the next day [comes from]. If we had a shot and didn’t do it, let’s give ourselves a shot today. And we come through.”
Nestor Cortes who pitched, started game 2 of the doubleheader had this to say after New York swept Cleveland in the day, night doubleheader!
“I don’t think it’s anything out of the ordinary,We’ve been playing great baseball year-round. I think coming in here and getting those two games were really important for us to get back on track, and we have a chance to sweep tomorrow. Another sweep for us would be good.”
