David Phelps Is Retiring Following Pitching For New York, Miami, Seattle Toronto, Chicago (Cubs) , Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Toronto Again, Having Surgery, Reattaching Lat Muscle To Right Shoulder

David Phelps was drafted by the team that wears the pinstripes in the 2008 MLB Draft as pick 440 in the 14th round of MLB Draft out of Notre Dame.

In New York David Phelps pitched three seasons.

In 2012 David Phelps finished with a record of 4-4 with an earn run average of 3.34.

In 2013 David Phelps finished with a record of 6-5 with an earn run average of 4.98.

In 2014 David Phelps finished with a record of 5-5 with an earn run average of 4.38 before New York the team that wears the pinstripes traded Martin Prado, David Phelps , cash considerations in exchange of Garrett Jones, Nathan Eovaldi, Domingo German. In Miami David Phelps pitched two full seasons in 2015-2016. In 2015 David Phelps finished with record of 4-8 with an earn run average of 4.50. In 2016 David Phelps finished with a record of 7-6 with an earn run average of 2.28. In 2017 David Phelps finished with a record of 2-4 with an earn run average of 3.45 for Miami before being traded to Seattle in in exchange for four prospects including Brayan Hernandez.

In 2019 with Toronto David Phelps finished with record of 0-0 with an earn run average of 0-0 with an earn run average 3.63 with Toronto before being traded to Chicago (Cubs) in exchange in minor league right handed pitcher Thomas Hatch ahead of MLB Trade Deadline.

In Chicago David Phelps finished with record of 2-1 with an earn run average of 3.18.

In 2020 David Phelps pitched for Milwaukee, Philadelphia.

David Phelps began the 2020 season with Milwaukee where he finished of 2-3 with an earn run average of 2.77 before being traded to Philadelphia for three prospects. In 2020 for Philadelphia David Phelps finished with record of 0-1 with an earn run average of 0-1 with an earn run average of 12.91.

Before returning to Toronto for 2021 -2022 seasons. In 2021 season David Phelps finished with record 0-0 with an earn run average of 0.87. In 2022 season David Phelps finished with record of 0-2 with an earn run average of 2.83.

Unfortunately though, 2022 season with Toronto would be his last coming out of bullpen as a reliever for MLB team as David Phelps came to the decision to retire from MLB following a procedure that he had that included reattaching lat muscle to his right shoulder.

Following David Phelps announcement that he was retiring from MLB he shared his thoughts!

What were they?

On 5/5/ 21 I walked off the mound in Oakland frustrated and injured, unsure if I would be on Major League mound again. Over a year later on 10/5 / 2022 I walked off the mound in Baltimore knowing it was the last time I would in my career , Still unsure about what the future held but at peace with this new journey . God has blessed me with the ability to play this game for at the professional level for the past 15 years and it has taken me a couple months to put into words the thanks that are deserving but here goes …

To the Yankees , Marlines, Mariners, Bluejays, Cubs , Brewers and Phillies organizations Thank you for giving me the opportunity to compete for you over these past years . To my managers, coaches : Thank you for having faith in me , giving me the ball and for finding a way to get the most out of me. To my Strength Coaches, Trainers , Mental Performance Coaches:

Thank you for helping keep me on the field , As challenging as that may have been and for helping me through some dark times while rehabbing . To my clubhouse managers and support staff : Thank you for the long hours and late nights You do all the work and get none of the credit . I am grateful for each and every one of you . To Dr. Altchiek , Dr. Andrews and Dr. Romeo: Thank you for putting me back together and thank you for the scars that I can fondly on as part of my journey.

To my teammates :

Thank you for going to battle with me night in and night out. It is a grind that few understand and it has been my pleasure to be apart of it along with you. To the teams at fullreps , battleground and p3 including the late Brian Delunas” Thank you for helping me refine my craft and also for keeping me curious on how to constantly get better. To Frank , Tara and the team at Ahn Sports Peformance: Thank you for your friendships and for helping get ready for the past 8 seasons .

To Andrew , B.B. and the team at Jet Sports / Wasserman: Thank you for taking a chance on me , fighting for me, and supporting me threw through the past 5 seasons . I know I wasn’t always smooth sailing, but your support was always felt. To my family: Thank you to my mom and dad and brother Mike for your continues support from the very beginning. I am also grateful for the support of so many extended family members over the years Always believing I could ‘‘Strike ‘Em Out Uncle Dave!’’’

Lastly to my wife Maria and my children Adeline , Eloise , Jackson Genevieve . You saw me at my highest and at my lowest and loved me the same . Thank you for your support and sacrifice . Without you none of this would be possible and thank you for coming along on this crazy journey and and helping me live my dream for these past 15 years .
