Duke's Road Woes Continue With Loss In Winston Salem To Wake Forest In Double Overtime

Last week Duke lost in North Carolina’s state capital to NC State by 22 points.

This week Duke who is ranked seventh in this weeks AP Top 25 poll lost in Winston Salem to a Wake Forest team who has a record of 12-15 and 5-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The similarities in these two opponents They’re both unranked unlike Duke.

While Duke’s road woes continued Wake Forest won the rematch between the two Atlantic Coast Conference foes after Duke won by 31 points in Durham on January 8th.

Olivier Sarr led the Demon Deacons with a career-high 25 points. Chaundee Brown had 23 points for his fifth 20-point game of the season and Jahcobi Neath added 16 points, matching his career high. HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Deacons got off to a strong start offensively and took a 13-7 lead over the first six minutes. Wake pushed the lead to 29-18 with 8:00 to play in the half as Neath scored 10 of the Deacs' first 29 points. The Deacs led by as many as 12 in the first half before Duke used a late run to tie the game at 39-39 at the break. Duke (23-5, 13-4 ACC) used an early 8-0 run in the second half to take a 56-46 lead with 13:00 to play. The Blue Devils led by 12 before a 6-0 Deacon run cut the lead in half, 62-56, with 9:40 to play. Wake drew within four at 69-65 with 5:30 to go and trailed 79-76 with 31.7 left after Sarr scored on an alley-oop from Neath. After a steal, Brandon Childress made a three to tie the game 18 seconds left. Wake (12-15, 5-12 ACC) led 85-84 at the midway point of overtime after a pull-up jumper from Childress. A layup from Sarr with 1:15 left pushed the lead to 89-86 and Wake held an 89-88 lead with a minute to go. Childress had a layup-and-one with 46.9 left to make the score 92-88. Wake led 94-92 with 30.0 left and Mucius pushed the lead to 96-92 at the line with 22.3 left before a Duke triple made the lead 96-95 with 16.0 left. Childress opened the second overtime with a triple and a putback from Oguama gave Wake an early five-point lead with 3:00 to go. Duke will now turn their attention to preparing for their only regular season meeting of the season with the defending national champions in Charlottesville Saturday night where they will not only look to bounce back but hopefully finish out the regular season on the road on a high note before returning to Durham to closeout the home portion of their 2019-20 schedule with rematches against NC State and North Carolina.
