NC State comes into the game with a record of 7-5 overall while they’re 0-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and is eleventh in the standings behind Florida State.

NC State lost their final non conference game of the season to Wright State by a score of 84-70 on Tuesday December 21, 2021!

Why?

NC State led 38-37 at the break. The two teams traded baskets to start the final 20 minutes before a Tim Finke basket gave the Raiders a 41-40 lead with 18:00 to go. That basket was the start of a 15-4 run that gave Wright State a 10-point lead with 15:01 to go. NC State would never get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
In NC State’s loss Freshman guard Terquavion Smith scored a career-high 27 points to lead NC State. The freshman guard was 12-of-25 from the field.

Jericole Hellems added 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting and had six rebounds and three steals.

Dereon Seabron also reached double figures with 10 points.

Wright State shot over 50 percent in both halves on their way to a 52.5 percent shooting performance, which ties for the best shooting percentage for an NC State opponent this season.

Wright State scored 46 of their 84 points in the paint. Grant Basile had a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Trey Calvin added 19 points while Tanner Holden had 17 points and AJ Braun added 13 points.

Terquavion Smith scored on the Pack's next possession and Dereon Seabron nearly blew the roof off the building with a dunk in traffic to give NC State a 57-52 lead with 8:28 to go.

After the Pack took the lead on the Dowuona hook shot, it stayed in front until a desperation Noah Locke three-pointer at the end of the shot clock tied the game at 68 with 90 seconds to go. NC State's shot on its next possession was blocked and Louisville took possession with 55 seconds to play, looking for the lead.

NC State played great defense and forced a Louisville timeout with two seconds left on the shot clock. After the timeout, the Cardinals threw a cross-court pass to Matt Cross who hit a fadeaway three while falling out-of-bounds to give Louisville a 71-68 lead with 26 seconds to go.

Hayes three-point attempt to tie was off the mark and Louisville's Jarrod West made both ends of a one-on-one to clinch the game for Louisville.

Jericole Hellems led NC State with 18 points. Sith added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Hayes was also in double figures with 15 points.

Seabron was one rebound shy of his sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and nine rebounds.

NC State was playing without the ACC's two-time reigning shot block champion Manny Bates and Casey Morsell (12.3 ppg.) was stretched thin and saw its bench outscored 28-0 by Louisville's.

Miami comes into the game with a record of 9-3 while they’re 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and third in the Atlantic Coast Conference where they’re tied with North Carolina has the same record as them tonight though North Carolina isn’t playing against Virginia Tech tonight in Chapel Hill because Virginia Tech has coronavirus issues within their program and that game was postponed.

Sixth-year redshirt senior forward Sam Waardenburg scored a career-best and co-game-high 18 points for Miami (6-3, 1-0 ACC), which made six of its last seven shots and closed the thriller on a 19-5 run.

Miami started just 3-of-13 from the field, as Clemson (5-4, 0-1 ACC) built an early 16-8 lead through just 7:09. Aided by quality 3-point shooting, Miami pulled even at 30 with 3:34 remaining in the half.

Clemson, though, closed the frame on a 10-4 burst, capped with a 3-pointer by fifth-year senior David Collins in the closing seconds to give the Tigers a 40-34 edge at the break.

Both teams posted strong clips from long range in the opening 20 minutes. Miami, which started 5-of-9 on 3-pointers and just 1-of-9 from two, went 5-of-12 (41.7 percent), while Clemson shot 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) beyond the arc.

Clemson connected on 7-of-9 field goals during an early second-half stretch to rebuild their eight-point lead, 57-49, with 11:58 left. Miami, though, had a burst in which it shot 6-of-8 to trim the deficit to two, 59-57, with 8:59 to go.

Clemson upped its edge to a game-high nine, 70-61, with 5:02, but the Hurricanes scored 12 straight points—the first five from Waardenburg—in 2:20 to put Miami ahead, 73-70, with 2:29 left.

Miami didn’t not stop there, though, continuing the run until it went all the way up to 19-3, as they closed out the game by shooting 5-of-6 at the line in the final 30 seconds. Clemson got the final bucket of the afternoon to make it a five-point final margin.
