North Carolina is opposing Miami on the road tonight in Coral Gables Florida.

North Carolina comes into the game with a record of 12-4 while they’re 4-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and third in the standings behind Duke who is their tobacco road rival because they swept the regular season games with Georgia Tech by winning both games in Atlanta in Chapel Hill!

In North Carolina’s 79-62 win over Georgia Tech RJ Davis scored 13 of his game-high 23 points in the second half Sunday afternoon as North Carolina pulled away in the second half to defeat Georgia Tech 79-62 in the ACC opener for both teams.

The game was tied 31-all at halftime, after UNC (6-2) overcame a nine-point deficit behind stingy defense. Georgia Tech (5-3) lost its second straight contest as senior guard Michael Devoe, who entered the game as the nation's leading scorer with a 25-point average, was limited to 13 points on 5 of 12 shooting.

Freshman guard Deebo Coleman scored 13 points for Tech, which also got 13 from senior wingman Khalid Moore.

North Carolina won with balance. Four players finished with double-figure scoring, including Caleb Love with with 17 points and Armando Bacot who pitched in with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Georgia Tech was the better team for much of the first half.

Georgia Tech built a nine-point lead on a steal and dunk by Moore with 8:43 remaining, but North Carolina outscored the Jackets 17-8 from there to even the score by halftime.

Devoe scored just six points over the first half as North Carolina made it difficult for him to receive the ball and generally double-teamed him any time he had ball inside of the 3-point line.

North Carolina coach Hubert Davis, who is in his first season at the helm of the Tar Heels, had his team play mostly man-to-man defense and generally deployed guards Anthony Harris and Leaky Black on the Tech sharpshooter.

On Saturday North Carolina won the match up in Chapel Hill by a score of 88-65.

In North Carolina’s 88-65 win over Georgia Tech Armando Bacot tied his career high with 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, RJ Davis scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and North Carolina cruised to a 88-65 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday night.

Bacot made 10 of 16 from the field and 9 of 9 from the free-throw line while Davis had six assists and hit four 3-pointers. Caleb Love made three 3s and finished with 14 points and Brady Manek added 11 points for North Carolina (12-4, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Davis hit a 3-pointer to open the scoring and another to cap a 10-2 opening run and the Tar Heels never trailed. Davis hit two more 3s — and Manek added a 3-pointer and a traditional three-point play — in a 16-3 spurt that made it 42-24 with 2:23 left in the first half. Bacot converted back-to-back three-point plays and then made a layup in a 50-second span to give North Carolina a 32-point lead, its biggest of the game, with 9:29 left.

Florida State shot just 1-of-10 (10.0 percent) from 3-point range in the first half, while Miami notched seven steals and forced 10 turnovers. Florida State, though, recorded a 21-13 edge on the glass, including a 7-2 margin at the offensive end.

Miami went back in front on a third-chance corner 3-pointer by Moore with just seven seconds on the clock. That snapped a span of five-plus minutes without a make for the Hurricanes. Florida State senior guard RayQuan Evans, though, hit two free throws with 0.8 seconds left to give the Seminoles the win.

Moore’s 20-point showing came on 8-of-12 shooting, including a 4-of-5 mark from 3-point range. The Chicago native added a game-high six assists, three rebounds and co-game-best three steals before fouling out in the last second.

McGusty, who eclipsed 1,500-career points, recorded 17 points and a game-best nine rebounds, finishing just shy of a fifth double-double in 2021-22. Wong scored 10 points, adding a season-best five assists and co-game-high three steals.

Fourth-year junior guard Jordan Miller scored nine points, all on 3-pointers in the first six-and-a-half minutes of the second half, and sixth-year redshirt senior forward Sam Waardenburg posted eight points and a career-high-tying three blocks.

Freshman guard Matthew Cleveland led Florida State with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Redshirt senior guard Anthony Polite tallied 12 points and a co-team-high eight rebounds, while shooting 4-of-6 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the stripe. Evans scored 11 points in the Seminoles’ victory.

Miami shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the field and 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from 3-point range. Florida State, however, tallied a 37-25 advantage on the backboards, a 17-8 edge in second-chance points and a 25-0 margin in bench points.

Miami had 10 steals, their third straight game in double figures, and forced 15 turnovers while committing 11. The entire game was played within a 12-point window, including the whole second-half within a six-point window.
