NC State, Virginia Tech are matching up twice this season on the hardwood!

Once in Blackburg once in North Carolina’s state capital

Tonight they’re matching up in Blacksburg!

NC State comes into the game with a record of 7-7 while they’re 0-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and are last in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings.

Why?

Because NC State has lost five straight games including their most recent game an Atlantic Coast Conference game verses Florida State on Saturday in North Carolina’s state capital!

In NC State’s 81-83 loss to Florida State NC State led for over 25 minutes in the game, but after taking a 75-74 lead on a Dereon Seabron lay-up with 1:50 to play, Florida State rattled off a 9-3 run to win.
Terquavion Smith added 23 points, hitting 8-of-15 shots, including 7-of-13 from three-point range. The seven three-pointers are the most by an NC State player since Allerik Freeman made seven in the Pack's win at North Carolina on Jan. 27, 2018.

Seabron and Smith combined for 30 of NC State's 40 points in the second half.

Florida State led by two at the break, 43-41, but NC State scored the first six points of the second half to force a Seminoles timeout.

FSU battled back to tie the game at 51, but a 7-0 Pack run, capped by a Breon Pass three-pointer, gave NC State a 58-51 lead with 11:23 to go. Pass' basket were the last points scored for NC State by a player that wasn't Seabron or Smith.

The Seminoles quickly came back, going on a 10-2 run and taking the lead on a Matthew Cleveland jumper with 8:07 to go.

Florida State would extend the lead to five, and the run to 16-4, on a Cleveland lay-up with 5:37 to go.

After an NC State timeout, Seabron scored the next five points in the game to tie the score at 67 with 5:03 to play.

The team's would exchange the lead five times over the next five minutes as neither team had a lead larger than one possession until Florida State hit two free throws with four seconds to play.

Osborne led four Florida State players in double figures with 19 points.

Virginia Tech comes into the game with a record of 8-5 while they’re 0-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and is twelfth in the standings because they lost to Duke on Wednesday December 22, 2021 in Durham. In Virginia Tech’s 76-65 loss to Duke Virginia Tech carried a lead into the break, but ultimately fell, 76-65, to No. 2 Duke on Wednesday night in ACC men's basketball action from Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Virginia Tech (8-5, 0-2 ACC) had three players score in double figures, led by Keve Aluma, who had a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Justyn Mutts tacked on 20 points and nine rebounds, and Hunter Cattoor chipped in 10 points.

Virginia Tech utilized fantastic ball movement in Wednesday's game, piling up 16 assists on 26 made field goals. Individually, Storm Murphy was on top of the distribution list for the Hokies with four assists.

How It Happened

After falling behind 13-4, Virginia Tech went on a 9-0 run with 16:07 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Aluma, to tie the game at 13. The Hokies then proceeded to grab a 36-32 lead heading into halftime. Virginia Tech took advantage of seven offensive rebounds to score six second chance points out of 36 total in the period

The Blue Devils (11-1, 1-0 ACC) used a 13-0 run during the early stages of the second half to erase their halftime deficit. Duke proceeded to take a 65-52 lead before Tech went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Aluma's layup, to shrink the deficit to 65-58 with 5:32 to go in the contest. Duke responded and outscored the Hokies the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 76-65. Virginia Tech took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 29 points in the lane.
