North Carolina Swept NC State In The Regular Season, NC State Was Swept By North Carolina In The Regular Season

North Carolina swept NC State in the regular season.

Why?

Because they won the first match up of the regular season 100-80 in Chapel Hill on Saturday January 29, 2022 Armando Bacot recorded his 16th double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds,

North Carolina put up a season-high 56 points before halftime on the strength of 10-for-15 shooting from 3-point range and finished 15 for 27 from behind the arc.

Brady Manek led the first-half blitz with four 3s and seven Tar Heels recorded a 3. The 56-first half points were just two shy of what North Carolina tallied in a 58-47 win over Boston College on Wednesday night.

In addition to Bacot's double-double, he recorded six blocked shots. Caleb Love scored 21 points and R.J. Davis and Manek scored 17 apiece.

North Carolina led 56-31 at halftime and pushed the margin to 73-38 on Davis' 3 with 14:53 remaining.

Then they won the rematch on Saturday February 26, 2022 in North Carolina’s state capital 84-74.

Armando Bacot scored 28 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for his 22nd double-double this season to lead North Carolina to an 84-74 victory over North Carolina State on Saturday.

Bacot was 11-of-13 shooting and blocked five shots for the Tar Heels (21-8, 13-5 Atlantic Coast Conference), who didn't leave any doubt against the last-place Wolfpack in a game UNC couldn't afford to have mar their NCAA Tournament at-large resume.

Brady Manek, Caleb Love and Puff Johnson scored 16 points each. It was a career best for Johnson, who played a season-high 29 minutes after Leaky Black left with a knee injury in the first half.

NC State first lost to North Carolina on the road in Chapel Hill on January 29, 2022 80-100.

Why?

North Carolina hit 10 three-pointers in the opening half and NC State could never recover as North Carolina knocked off NC State 100-80.

Then they lost the rematch Saturday in North Carolina’s state capital 74-84!

Why?

North Carolina jumped out to a 20-3 lead and while the Pack closed within nine, 36-27, with 3:25 left in the first half, but UNC closed the half on a 10-2 run to take a 46-27 advantage into the break.

North Carolina shot 60 percent in the opening 20 minutes compared to just 25.8 percent for NC State to help the Tar Heels jump out to its large lead.

NC State scored the first six points of the second half to get within 13, North Carolina rattled off the next seven to effectively put the game out of reach. The Pack closed the game on a 9-0 run to get within 10.

North Carolina has a quick turnaround because they are hosting Syracuse Monday in Chapel Hill on Senior Night where they will honor Leaky Black.

Meanwhile,

NC State doesn’t play until Wednesday when they visit Winston- Salem where they will take on Wake Forest who they lost to 51-69 on February 9, 2022 in North Carolina’s state capital.

In NC State’s 51-69 to Wake Forest closed the game on a 16-0 run to defeat NC State, 69-51,trailed 53-51 after two Dereon Seabron free throws with 5:19 to play but would not score again as the Demon Deacons scored on eight consecutive games to finish the game.

Wake Forest held a 41-32 lead with 14:19 to play, but the Pack battled back, going on a 13-4 run over the next five minutes to tie the game on a Seabron lay-up with 9:10 to go.

Seabron scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half. He finished the game 8-of-15 shooting. He was the only NC State player in double figures.

Jaylon Gibson grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds to lead the Pack in rebounding.

Terquavion Smith had a team-high four assists but fouled out with just eight points after a 3-of-16 shooting performance.

NC State shot just 32.2 percent in scoring a season-low 51 points. The Pack hit a season-low three three-pointers as they shot a season-low 13.6 percent from long distance.

Wake Forest held a 31-28 lead at the break after shooting 52 percent in the opening 20 minutes. NC State attempted 13 more field goals than the Demon Deacons in the first half but shot just 31 percent which allowed Wake Forest to take the edge into halftime.

A 6-0 run gave the Demon Deacons a 27-20 advantage, but NC State held Wake Forest to just four points in the final 5:47 of the first half to close within three at the break.
