DJ Burns Is Transferring To NC State After Playing His Freshman, Sophomore Junior Seasons At Winthrop

As a redshirt freshman at Winthrop in 2019-2020,

DJ Burns who is a forward was Voted as the 2019-20 Big South Conference Freshman of the Year

  • Voted to the All-Big South Second Team

  • Named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week five times (tying program record)

  • Came off the bench and led the team in scoring with 16 points in the Big South Conference title game victory over Hampton

  • Finished the season with 394 points, second most in a single-season by a freshman in program history

  • Had a career-high 23 points as he was 11-of-14 from the floor at Charleston Southern

  • Previous career-high of 22 points (15 minutes) at Hampton (was just his 5th start of the season)

  • Broke the freshman record for field goals made in the win over Campbell (Feb. 6) and finished with 175 (44 ahead of the previous record)

  • Led the Big South in field goal percentage (.583)

  • Finished second on the team in scoring at 11.9 ppg (3rd best scoring average by a freshman in program history)

  • Averaged 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds while shooting 68 percent from the floor in the Big South Tournament (3 games)

  • Tied a career-high of three blocks on Jan. 10 vs. Gardner-Webb

    As a junior at Winthrop in 2021-2022,

    DJ Burns averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds 1.1 assists while shooting 62.5 percent.
