Following Duke knocking off 17th ranked Miami 68-66 Saturday Head Coach Jon Scheyer had this to say for his Opening Statement. On the last bucket from Tyrese Proctor and the elements it takes to win this kind of a game. On playing zone defense: On the unselfishness of the offense: On Jacob Grandison’s offensive play “Great win for us. I was told before it was the 500th consecutive sellout that we’ve had and what an amazing place to play basketball games. Cameron is one of a kind. I think itshowed today. Really proud of the overall effort. I thought everybody on the team stepped up at different moments and for me, Dereck Lively, he’s been working his butt off every day with Coach [Amile] Jefferson. He keeps getting better and for him to have six offensive rebounds, 10 rebounds overall, five blocked shots. Thought we had to change our defenses up. Miami is an explosive team. You never relax when you’re playing against them and to hold them to 66 points, I’m really proud of our defense and the job that we did. Coach Lucas, Jai, has been our defensive coordinator. He actually had the scout for Miami as well. He’s been huge for us in what we’ve done, so happy to answer any questions but really proud of the effort. “Just gutting it out. Getting loose balls, finishing plays, because you like to say ‘make shots’ and we do, we execute. I thought we got some good ones, but our defense has been our backbone and I think we are the type of team we have to gut it out and scrap and crawl and we did that. The last minute, that stop that we got I think it was a two- or three-point game and just to come up with the loose ball, really to me, was the difference.”“Well, as much as you can try and keep them out of the paint, and we did that, we gave up 10 threes which hasn’t been typical of our defense. They’re a tough team to control the ball one-on-one. They have literally four guys that can create at all times. [Norchad] Omier is a load in the post. So just being able to switch it up and give different looks. When Ryan [Young]’s on the floor it’s different than when Dereck’s on the floor and trying to play to those strengths is what we’ll continue to do and adjust that.”was proud of our offense. I thought we came out really clicking, sharing the ball, I mean we had 38 points at half, so our offense was good. It was more our defense and Miami is a team where you can have a high scoring game against them. In the second half, to hold them to 28 points, that’s a big deal. That’s not an easy thing to do, so proud of defense but really our offense, the way we shared it. We didn’t really have turnovers just by being careless with the ball, more just learning how to play through contact and play through resistance. Sometimes on drives they do a good job when you get downhill just attacking the ball and we need to be stronger in those areas.Jake is just a calming force. He makes really easy plays. Ball doesn’t stick with him. He’s the best post passer that we have. He’s always a threat. He shot 40 [percent] from three today still, but he’s a guy you have to guard. He’s capable of having a five, six three game which I believe he’s got in him still. And he battles, he knows how to compete. He’s battle tested. He’s been in big-time environments and I just thought when he was in there he made us better today.

Though,

Duke Head Coach Jon Scheyer wasn’t the only Head Coach to share his thoughts following Duke’s 68-66 win over Miami as Miami Head Coach Jim Larranaga did as well.

Jim Larranaga said this for his Opening Statement on how Miami tried to handle Duke’s size and home court advantage: On the play of Norchad Omier: On Isiah Wong playing ill today:

Though,

Duke Head Coach Jon Scheyer, Miami Head Coach Jim Larranaga weren’t the only ones to share their thoughts following Duke knocking off 17th ranked 68-66 Miami as Duke players did as well.

Those Duke players included Junior guard Jeremy Roach, Freshman Forward Kyle Filipowski , Freshman Center Dereck Lively II.

Jeremy Roach shared his thoughts on the defense he played on Miami’s Isiah Wong: On returning from toe injury.

I was really just having flashbacks to last year [versus Miami]. They had like two or three crucial buckets in like the last minute-thirty last year, and I just didn’t want that to happen to me. Getting stops was the biggest key in those last two minutes. I just didn’t want him to score, get in the lane and try to find somebody, or me getting caught off, he gets a step on me and gets a layup. I just wanted to get a stop.”“It’s probably the best I’ve felt since Iowa [December 6, 2022 in Madison Square Garden]. I’m just happy to be out there with my brothers and just happy we got the win. It’s just big for our confidence getting a win like that. We’ve just got to keep growing, keep learning, and don’t listen to any outside noise, listen to the 15 guys that are in here and the coaches in the locker room, and everything will take care of itself.”

Kyle Filipowski shared his thoughts on how Duke executed down the stretch to win the game, compared to Clemson game. On his appearing more and more confident as the season goes on: On having point guard Jeremy Roach back from injury: On Duke’s zone defense today.

Dereck Lively II shared his thoughts by saying this for his Opening Statement.

“Just being able to get a win over Miami is a great W. Being able to come back after some hardships, come back after some adversity, just being able to keep our heads straight, keep our heads forward, and keep pushing. We wanted it. Every time we want it, we’re going to go get it. We rely on each other, we rely on each other’s energy, we rely on Cameron’s energy. It doesn’t matter whether we’re here or away – we’re going to rely on each other.

On the play of the Duke freshman:

Great boards, just being able to stay aggressive, being able to fight through contact, being able to take contact and give contact, it’s something that college has shown me and I’m just adapting to it. I’m just putting work in, putting more and more work in than I have before, and that’s what’s going to happen – each level you get to, you’ve got to put more work and more time in. You’ve got to keep your head straight and just dig deep

Kyle Filipowski was 4-12 on field goals , 1-4 on 3 pointers to go along 9 rebounds , 4 steals , 3 turnovers, 9 points . As a team as Duke sustained 81-59 loss to 19th ranked Miami Monday in Miami Gardens Florida Duke had 21 turnovers.

Following Duke sustaining 81-59 loss to 19th ranked Miami Monday in Miami Gardens Florida Jon Scheyer had this to say for his opening statement. On what he saw after 21 turnovers, missed close shots. On what he thinks about playing on the road in Atlantic Coast Conference play. On how tough it is to reset after North Carolina game, travel and then play against a tough Miami team. On what stood out to him about Miami.

So first of all, congratulations to Miami. There’s a reason they haven’t lost here at home. They’re really good. They obviously had it clicking on all cylinders right away. And for us, we had a different look. Even the games, we’ve lost games on the road, we’ve been right there. Playing at Clemson, at Virginia Tech. We win the last one at Georgia Tech. And for us, it wasn’t the same level ofcompeting, and the same look. And so that’s on me, on our guys, on our team. It’s disappointing, not okay with it. Not taking any credit away from them. They won; they beat us. No excuses. No excuses on our end. We’ll figure out where to go and how to improve from here. But disappointing for me.” On what he saw on offense after 21 turnovers, missed close shots. It starts with the turnovers, right? If you give any team, but a team as good as Miami, 21 turnovers and just layups and dunks in transition, it’s going to be a heck of a night for you. And some of them they were aggressive and got in the passing lanes, other times we just lost the ball. I mean literally lost the ball. And that’s going to make it really difficult. And then you add in the offensive rebounds, second-chance points – we’ve been a team that’s protected our paint. And those are the two things against these guys you have to do really well. And obviously we didn’t execute that. On what he thinks has been the challenge about playing on the road in conference play. “I don’t know. I mean, for us, end of the day, you’re playing ball no matter where you are. If it’s neutral, road, home. Do I think the Cameron Crazies and Cameron Indoor Stadium helps us? Absolutely. It’s the best place to play college basketball. But for us, throughout my time here, we go on the road and we love it. There’s the white-out here tonight and that’s what it should be. That’s what it is. And so for us, you do it by competing, you do it by being really together. The start that we got off to, we were trying to get it all back at once. And it’s not going to go against a team like them. You can’t get it back at once. You have to really work hard. And then look, for us, you miss a lot of bunnies and they made all of theirs. Tip your hat to them for some of those, but that’s on us with the focus you need to have. Especially on a quick turnaround.“It’s tough. It’s not easy. But it’s what you have to do. And end of the day, they played Saturday too. And so, there’s no excuses. That’s part of playing in the ACC. That’s part of playing big-time college basketball. If we’re able to, we have to earn our way there, and we have many games to win and to go, but if you have a chance to play in March, you’re playing a Thursday-Saturday game. You’re playing a Friday-Sunday game. So it’s part of growing up and learning how to prepare the same way – no matter who you’re playing, no matter where the game is at. And that’s what this game was all about. It wasn’t about as much about executing. To me it was about the focus, the fight, the energy. To come out against a really good team, we have two road games this week against two of the best teams in our league. It’s a great opportunity. But you have to come out at the same level no matter where you are.“Just how ready to play they were. They’re explosive. You can talk about their lack of size, they’re strong. They’re experienced. They really know how to play. They play both ends of the ball and offensively, they spread you out. They can hurt you from every position. And they know who they are. They’ve been in a lot of games together but they’ve been in a lot of games with the experience they have in college. We knew it was going to be a tough game, no matter what, but you have to take care of the ball and protect our paint.

Though,

Jon Scheyer wasn’t the only from Duke to share his thoughts about Duke’s 81-59 loss as Duke players in junior guard Jeremy Roach, freshman forward Kyle Filipowski did as well. Jeremy Roach shared his thoughts on Miami’s energy impacting the game. On how he felt early in the game with slow offensive start . On the difference how he feels off the court tonight compared to after North Carolina win. “I mean, we had 21 turnovers. That was pretty much, that’s the game right there. If you give the ball away 21 times, the other team is probably going to win.“We’ve just got to be more together. When we get down, we can’t just go one-on-one, we can’t play hero ball, we’ve got to move it. Play inside out and just do what we have been all season. Obviously, Miami did a good job of making it tough for us, but we put that on ourselves for sure.”“Just next game. We can’t harp on this game, we can’t harp on what we did on Saturday. We’ve got to just get back to work this week and take care of UVA on Saturday.”

Freshman forward Kyle Filipowski shared his thoughts on trying to overcome the quick start by Miami at the beginning of the game. On lack of toughness on offense. On the difference how feels walking off the court tonight compared after North Carolina win.

think they just came out, punched us in the mouth first and we didn’t really respond. I mean, granted, they are a good team, but they did nothing special today to make us play how poorly we did. That was kind of just ourselves and our attitude and our mindset going into the game. And we just didn’t really try and fight back.”We were just careless with the ball. I don’t think we were really playing selfish on offense today. I just think we didn’t take care of the ball like we normally should have. Just a lot of letting it slip by our hands, things like that. Careless passes. And it wasn’t really our offense. It was just individually; we weren’t taking care of the ball.“Yeah, I mean, conference play is real, man. Things can just flip the next day and the next game is going to be a real character test. Because they’re the best team in our conference right now, we’re going on the road to them, so we can’t repeat what we just did tonight. We’ve got to get our stuff together and stay focused because we can make happen what exactly happened to us. We can be on the other side of that, we’ve just got to stay focused and gameplan on what’s coming up next.

The way we shared the ball was beautiful. I was told it's an ACC Tournament record. It's a reflection on these guys for how they've grown together as a team and just making the right play. Really some beautiful plays. We know we have to move on quickly. Doesn't matter what you win by. But really happy to beat a really good Pitt team

Following Duke’s 96-69 win advancing to semifinals of Atlantic Coast Tournament Friday in Greensboro where they going to playing Miami freshman forward Mark Mitchell had this to say!

I think we always talk about turning defense into offense. I think just being as big and as athletic as we are, even when D-Live blocks a shot and kind of gets us on a run-out, that's something we can always take advantage of. And I think tonight obviously with the steals and D-Live blocking a couple shots there in the first half helped us get out in transition, too. I think when we're doing that, that's when we're at our best."
