Chris Collins was a team captain as a senior and four-year letterman from 1993-96. He ranks 11th among Duke’s all-time leaders in three-point field goals (209) and 10th in three-point field goal attempts (539). Collins averaged 9.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists as a collegian. He earned second-team All-ACC honors as a senior.

In his first season as a coach at Duke, the Blue Devils won the 2001 national championship with an 82-72 victory over Arizona. Chris Collins helped the Blue Devils to a 26-7 overall slate that included the ACC tournament crown in 2004-05. Redick was named the National Player of the Year.
In the 2005-06 season, Chris Collins watched his star pupil, Redick, rank second in the NCAA with a scoring average of 26.8 points per game, while setting the Duke and ACC career scoring records and the NCAA career three-point field goals record. He was a consensus National Player of the Year and a unanimous first-team All-American for the 32-4 Blue Devils.
In 2007-08, Chris Collins helped Nelson elevate his game and garner several honors along the way. Nelson was tabbed the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and also earned NABC third-team All-America, first-team All-ACC and ACC All-Defensive team honors. In 2008-09, Collins guided Henderson to All-America and first-team All-ACC honors. Collins also coached Scheyer in his transition to point guard late in the year, which led to an ACC tournament title.
Chris Collins helped lead Duke to its second national championship during his tenure in 2009-10 as the Blue Devils defeated Butler, 61-59, in the NCAA championship game. Collins coached the top-scoring trio in the NCAA as guards Jon Scheyer, Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith combined to score 53.3 points per game. Scheyer was named a second-team All-America, Singler was the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player and Smith was the NCAA Tournament South Region MOP. All three players were also selected All-ACC and to ACC all-tournament teams while leading the Blue Devils to ACC tournament and ACC regular season championships.
The 2010-11 season marked the third-straight 30-win campaign for the Blue Devils. Collins coached a pair of senior all-stars for the Blue Devils, Singler and Smith. For this group in particular, to experience this, to experience playing on the road, while you wish you were 2-0 on the road or 4-0 in conference, but that’s not how it works. For us it’s all about how you learn from it and that’s how I’m gonna approach it.”

“What a special night in Cameron. The crowd was absolutely incredible and really proud of our team for the growth that we’ve made this season, their perseverance. NC State is a really good team. They’re explosive offensively. I thought our defense was the key to the game. It’s been really what we’ve hung our hat on all year long. Dereck [Lively]’s job on [D.J.] Burns. Tyrese [Proctor] with [Terquavion] Smith. We were fortunate too. They missed some shots. Collectively, I thought we played a great defensive team and down the stretch, Jeremy [Roach] really made some key plays. I think he scored six of our last 10. Pressure free throws with Tyrese, with Jeremy. We can handle that situation better, but also, they’re throwing up some big-time shots. That’s what they do. So, really proud of this team. Proud of going undefeated at home. To represent Cameron Indoor Stadium this way is a big deal. Get refreshed and focused for one more game.”“The fact that we had more points from turnovers than they did speaks for itself. I think they had one pick-six when they went and laid it in, but besides that, I think we did a great job making them a half-court team. They’re fast. They get down the floor as quickly as anybody we’ve played. It starts there. I don’t even want to compare it to the last game because I could go on and on about that. It started there and once we got them in the half-court, I thought five guys were just moving together. We did a good job controlling the ball. We played without fouling for the most part and give them credit, I thought in the first half, they made some tough shots and that’s what they do. First of all, congratulations to Duke. I think Jon [Scheyer] has done a really good job with his team. I don't know if that was 15 or 16 wins at home, but that's pretty impressive to go undefeated at home in a year and you look at that team, they've grown so much. I remember when we played them, I don't know, months ago, and they played like freshmen. And you can tell that those guys have really grown up and it was a great game. I thought we fought through a lot of adversity. We had a couple of our starters that I didn't think played well-- man, but the fight in our team is so great. Obviously, you look up and I just told them keep fighting and then I think with maybe 40 seconds left, it was a one possession game and so I’m proud of our guys. I told them in the locker room we've had a really, really good season, regular season 22 wins and 12 conference wins and there's so much to be proud of and we have to turn our attention to, obviously, the ACC tournament.“Yeah, I think they’re just doing a good job. He’s such an elite scorer, and a lot of times, people are more face-guarding and sitting in gaps and making it tough for him to get the basketball and I think a lot of teams are trying to be really physical with him. And so some of those things, and he's been-- one of the things we got to clean up with him as he's been off the court for most for the last three or four games because he's picking up two fouls in the second half, I mean the first half so he's not allowed to play, so we’ve got to do a better job of him not fouling.”thought the tempo wasreally good. It’s weird because it wassimilarto the first game. Both teamsreally defended, if you remember, even though we jumped out to an early lead, it was a low scoring game at first. It was the same thing here-- kind of went back and forth. We never really got going. I think both teams missed shots early, and then I think we kind of loosened up. Jarkel Joiner really got us going and then I thought we played off of that. We had our moments. We cut it to two to four and then obviously they went up 10. It was a game of runs. And, if I could ask, if we were playing an NBA game, maybe had more time, and we could have maybe won the game, but we didn’t.”“He's been great. Listen, I thought we hit a home run with him. I knew it when we got him as a person. And I'll say this: as a person, he's unbelievable; better person than basketball player, but man, he's been so huge for us. He's played as an all-conference guy, first team, second team, all-conference guy down the stretch and he's made big plays and most guys when they went down early, probably wouldn't have came back in the game and we couldn't keep him out of the game. So he's been huge for our team, on both ends of the floor and been our floor general and kind of one of the heart and soul of our team. So I'm proud and glad that we got him.

Obviously, we had flashbacks to what [NC State] did to us [in Raleigh] and how they were celebrating on their court, but we just wanted to finish it out and get a win and, obviously, protect home court and go undefeated all season at home. I’m just glad we got it done. Obviously, last year didn’t end the way we wanted it to in the last home game at Cameron, so we just wanted to finish it out and do whatever it takes to get a win.”“It means a lot. Shout out to all the Crazies. They’ve been doing a great job, camping out, supporting us all year. They give us that energy, that boost that we need, and it’s been a fun ride with them.”“I pretty much do whatever the team needs me to do, whether it’s pass, rebound, take a charge, whatever it is. My job tonight was to finish it out and score some buckets. As a captain, I’ve got to lead us to the promised land and finish out games like that.“It’s big-time for ourconfidence and just the continuity of our group. Freshman Kyle Filipowski had this to say for his opening statement On Duke finishing the season undefeated at home “We’re trying to get a top-4 bid going into the [ACC] Tournament, and that was a huge game for us. We’ve had goals this whole season and we’re starting to get where we want to be, so we’re in a really good spot moving forward.” “I wasn’t entirely satisfied with my first-half performance. I was getting to the line, but I still knew I should’ve finished at the rim more. So I just came out there [in the second half] still with an aggressive mindset, still playing smart, trying not to [commit] any charges, things like that. This game definitely meant something to me, too, from when I first played them and how they really punched me in the mouth. Statistically we’re the worst 3 point shooting team in the ACC, so teams have been packing in and having multiple guys in the lane making us shoot the ball from the outside at times.
