Duke Suffers Their First Loss Of The Season As Their Offense Was Non- Existent Against Miami

I guess Duke shouldn't play on Friday in the future after their offense was non-existent as they welcomed Miami to Brooks Field @ Wallace Wade.

Miami held Duke scoreless and to just 125 yards of offense in the second half, handing the Blue Devils a tough 31-6 loss Friday night at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium. The setback was the first for the Blue Devils in 2017. "according to http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=22672&SPID=1843&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=211670513&DB_OEM_ID=4200

Duke falls to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in ACC action, while the Hurricanes improve to 3-0 and 1-0 in league play. "according to http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=22672&SPID=1843&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=211670513&DB_OEM_ID=4200

Miami finished the night with 409 yards of offense, 270 of which came through the air by quarterback Malik Rosier and scored 10 points off of turnovers to seal the victory. Duke had 349 yards overall with Johnathan Lloyd leading the way with 83 yards receiving and Shaun Wilson carrying the ball nine times for 63 yards. Daniel Jones went 21-of-41 for 166 yards. The first quarter featured a lot of action on both sides of the ball as the teams combined for 290 yards, 182 for Miami and 108 by the Blue Devils, and 17 points. "according to http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=22672&SPID=1843&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=211670513&DB_OEM_ID=4200

In a theme for much of the game, Duke couldn’t convert on fourth down inside the red zone, giving the Hurricanes the ball back without getting on the scoreboard. The Hurricanes capitalized and in under two minutes drove 76 yards, 39 of which came on a single pass, to take a 7-0 lead with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Rosier to Braxton Berrios in the back of the end zone. In nearly identical fashion four minutes later, Miami made it 14-0 with a seven-play, 68-yard drive that culminated in a one-yard quarterback sneak by Rosier. The Hurricane signal caller rushed for 20 yards and threw for 44 more yards on the drive that took just 2:27 off the clock.  "according to http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=22672&SPID=1843&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=211670513&DB_OEM_ID=4200

Duke cut into the Miami lead late in the first quarter with a 27-yard Austin Parker field goal. Buoyed by a 39-yard kickoff return from Wilson, the Blue Devils drove 48 more yards on 10 plays before having their drive stall at the Hurricane 9-yard line and settling for a field goal. In danger of falling behind by 18 with Miami at first-and-goal on the 1-yard line, the Blue Devils came up with three huge goal-line stands to hold the Hurricanes to a field goal and a 17-3 advantage with just over three minutes left in the half. "according to http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=22672&SPID=1843&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=211670513&DB_OEM_ID=4200

The Blue Devils got the ball back on their own 25-yard line on a touchback and quickly made their way into Miami territory with consecutive completions from Jones to Lloyd. Duke picked up 16 more yards, with 11 of those coming on passes to Lloyd, but once again the Blue Devils struggled to convert from within the 20-yard line and had to settle for a 36-yard Parker field goal to head into the locker room trailing 17-6. Defense was the story of the third quarter as the teams traded possessions, but were unable to show anything for it. Both squads had 74 yards of offense, zero points, and only nine first downs. Bryon Fields Jr. recorded his third interception of the season in the quarter, but Duke couldn’t make anything of it once it crossed over into Miami territory and turned the ball over on downs. "according to http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=22672&SPID=1843&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=211670513&DB_OEM_ID=4200

Miami started to pull away early in the fourth quarter, forcing Duke into a three-and-out and responding with a 49-yard strike from Rosier to Ahmmon Richards for the 24-6 advantage. The Hurricanes tacked on one more touchdown after a Duke fumble to seal the win in Durham. Alonzo Saxton II and Joe Giles-Harris both finished with nine tackles apiece, while  Ben Humphreys had six. "according to http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=22672&SPID=1843&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=211670513&DB_OEM_ID=4200

Duke will now turn their attention to their next opponent as they will travel to Charlottesville next Saturday as they will take on Virginia at Scott Stadium where they will look to hopefully get back in the win column after being dealt their first loss of the season.

Kick-off is set for 12:20 pm. The game will be televised on ACC Network. "according to http://www.goduke.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=4200&SPID=1843&SPSID=22666
