Is Gunnar Holmberg Going To Be Duke's Starting Quarterback In 2021?

As a freshman in 2018 at Duke Gunnar Holmberg played in one game ... on the field for three snaps versus Temple in the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl ... recorded one rushing attempt for 19 yards (19.00) ... enrolled at Duke in January, 2018.

As a sophomore in 2019 at Duke

Gunnar Holmberg did not see game action after suffering season-ending knee injury during fall camp.
As a junior in 2020 at Duke, Gunnar Holmberg was expected to compete for starting quarterback role but in 2020 that role went to Chase Brice who transferred from Clemson to Duke and then after one season at Duke transferred to Appalachian State.

Is the 2021 season finally going to be the season that Gunnar Holmberg gets to be the starting quarterback for David Cutcliffe, Duke?

Right now it certainly looks that way!

Why?

Because Gunnar Holmberg is entering the 2021 season that will start on Friday September 3, 2021 at Charlotte as Duke’s starting quarterback.

Gunnar Holmberg had this to say about being the Duke starting quarterback!

I think I’m one of the few quarterbacks from the North Carolina area that’s dreamed about being the Duke quarterback since 2013 or 2012,” Holmberg said Wednesday at the ACC Kickoff event in Charlotte. “So to finally be here, it seems like the blink of an eye. But it’s really been a long journey. Just very excited for it.”

Gunnar Holmberg was born in Western Pennsylvania!

But Gunnar Holberg wouldn’t remain living in Western Pennsylvania with his family!

Why?

Because Gunnar Holmberg , family would move to North Carolina specifically Wake Forest North Carolina when Gunnar Holmberg was in elementary school.

Why?

Because his father Sean who was a Marine was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1999

The same year Gunnar Holmberg was born!

The family had to move to North Carolina so that his father could receive treatments at Duke Hospital.

Those treatments didn’t work as hoped and Sean Holmberg died in 2009, leaving Gunnar, his older sister, Torianne, and their mother, Jennifer, to mourn his loss.

Last season Duke finished with a record of 2-9!

Will Duke be able to return to their winning ways this season with Gunnar Holmberg leading the Duke offense?

We will find start to find that September 3, 2021 when Duke opens the season on the road at Charlotte!
