Virginia Tech is a member of the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference!

Though,

It won’t be like that much longer as the Atlantic Coast Conference became the latest conference to get rid of divisions in favor of a new scheduling format Starting in 2023, the league announced it will move to a 3-5-5 format, in which each team has three permanent rivalry games played annually, with the other 10 opponents rotating on an every-other-year basis.

The plans for a shift back to a single-division format gained steam during the league's spring meetings in May, with the ACC hoping to improve its TV inventory of marquee games and set up a league championship game that would include its two best teams annually. Interestingly, the new format would not have altered the teams playing in the ACC title game in seven of the past eight years.

NC State comes into the game with a record of 5-2 overall 1-2 in the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference and is sixth in the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference because they lost to 18th ranked Syracuse who this week is ranked 16th this week in the AP Top 25 poll.

In NC State’24-9 loss at Syracuse Christopher Dunn provided all of the scoring for the Wolfpack. It was the eighth time in his career that Dunn has made three or more field goals in one game.

Making his first start for the Wolfpack, quarterback Jack Chambers completed 18 of 30 passes for 160 yards. Chambers also led the team in rushing with 58 yards on 19 carries.

NC State had a season-low 255 yards of total offense.

Syracuse started the game with a scoring drive, covering 65 yards in five plays, ending with a Garrett Shrader 12-yard touchdown pass to Oronde Gadsden II. It was the first of two connections between the duo.

The NC State defense picked off two passes in the second quarter - one by Tanner Ingle, the second by Aydan White - holding the Orange scoreless after Syracuse led 10-3 after one.

After their first touchdown, Syracuse would later add a field goal from Andre Szmyt to take a 10-3 lead at the half.

Dunn connected on a 20-yard field goal in the first quarter for the only score for the Wolfpack. NC State ran 7:14 off the clock on their scoring drive.

Dunn started the third quarter with another kick, capping off a drive that took nearly eight minutes off the clock to start the third.

Syracuse answered with a 13 play drive that covered 78 yards. Capped off with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Shrader to Oronde Gadsden II to put the Orange ahead 17-6 with 1:28 remaining in the third quarter.

Christopher Dunn's final kick was a 36-yard kick with 6:58 remaining in the game.

Virginia Tech comes into the game with a record of 2-5 overall 1-3 in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference and is last in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference because Virginia Tech lost 20-14 to Miami on Saturday October 15, 2022 in Blacksburg Virginia Tech (2-5, 1-3) trailed 20-0 before scoring twice in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Grant Wells' 3-yard touchdown run with 3:20 left cut the deficit to 20-14.

Miami, though, converted twice on third down on the ensuing drive, with the final conversion coming on Van Dyke's 9-yard run on third-and-6 from the Miami 46 with under a minute left.

Van Dyke completed 29 of 46 passes for the Hurricanes, who finished with 458 yards. Young had nine catches for 110 yards.

Miami picked up a much-needed win despite playing without five starters who were out with injuries. They controlled the game for the most part, but season highs in penalties (17) and penalty yardage (159) allowed the Hokies to stick around. Miami had the fewest penalties and least amount of penalty yardage in the ACC coming into this one.
