Before North Carolina topped Appalachian State in double overtime on starting quarterback Drake Maye’s 13 yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter Appalachian State took a 3-0 lead on Michael Hughes 46 yard field goal before responded with a touchdown by Omarion Hampton 68 yard run , Ryan Coe kicked the extra point giving North Carolina a brief 7-3 lead before Appalachian State responded with a touchdown of their own as Eli Wilson caught 5 yard pass from Joey Aguilar , Michael Hughes kicked the extra point giving Appalachian a 10-7 lead. Though, that lead would be brief as Ryan Coe would kick a 47 yard field goal tying up the game 10-10. In the 3rd quarter Appalachian State would regain the lead at 17-10 as Deshaun Davis would catch 33 Yard touchdown from Joey Aguilar, Michael Hughes would kick the extra point before North Carolina would respond with touchdown of their own as Caleb Hood would run for 5 yard touchdown , Ryan Coe would kick the extra point tying game up 17-17 before Ryan Coe would kick a 31 yard field goal giving North Carolina 20-17 lead . In the 1st overtime Nate Noel would run for 7 yard touchdown Michael Hughes would kick extra point giving Appalachian State the lead briefly yet again 37-27 before Omarion Hampton would 17 yards for touchdown, Ryan Coe kick the extra point.

Omarion is a really good player, and we've seen that type of performance coming,"Tonight, he ran the ball so well for the whole game, over 230 yards rushing and was the difference in the ball game."
