Miami Returns To Marlins Park To Take On Houston
Miami edged Atlanta Sunday and improved their record to 14-22 while Atlanta dropped to 13-21 on the season.
First baseman Tyler Moore was a big part of the reason why Miami edged Atlanta by a score of 3-1 as he blasted a three -run homer pinch-hit homer in the seventh innings to lift Miami over Atlanta.
He jumped on a first-pitch, 78.7-mph knuckleball from R.A Dickey, and the drive cleared the left-center-field wall. It was the Marlins' first pinch-hit home run of the season, and it provided a boost to a club that was in danger of getting swept and dropping six in a row at home. "They say right-handers hit knuckleball pitchers better than left-handers do," Moore said. "I figured maybe I'd get a pinch-hit spot. Numbers are decent against him. He was keeping us off-balance all game. It was tough for us. Just tried to put a good swing on it."
According to Statcast" Moore's home run projected at 413 feet with an exit velocity of 102 mph. It marked the fourth career pinch-hit homer for Moore, and Miami's first since Derek Dietrich knocked one on Sept. 21, 2016, against the Nationals. Moore is now 4-for-6 with two homers in his career off Dickey. The previous home run off the knuckleballer was also hit during a seventh-inning pinch-hit at-bat on Sept. 11, 2012. Tyler Moore had this to say about his three-run pinch-hit homer. "I thought it was a double," Moore said of his first thought off the bat. "This park is too big to assume anything. I just was trying to run hard and get to second, scoring position."
Miami now returns to Marlins Park to host Houston who spoiled The Captain Derek Jeter's night Sunday when they retired his number two jersey to Monument Park in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium.
Right -hander Dan Strailey will be on the mound for Miami. He has a record 1-3 with a 4.03 earn run average to go along with 37 strikeouts. After allowing in 10/1/3 innings in his previous two starts he posted his second seven-inning start of the year giving up one run against Saint Louis and hasn't given up more than four hits in his six starts. He will take on Houston right -hander Joe Musgrove who has a record of 2-3 with a 5.02 earn run average to go along with twenty -eight strikeouts. He will be making his first career start against Miami and his fourth start against a national league opponent. He snapped a two-game losing streak in his last outing holding Atlanta to two runs on four hits in six innings of work. Will the Miami offense be able to backup Dan Strailey's start? Will the Houston offense continue to stay hot? Will Joe Musgrove who is making his first start against Miami and his fourth against a national league get his third straight win?
