New York Is Denied The Sweep As Danny Duffy Throws A Shutout Through Seven

After winning the first two games of the three -game series New York was denied the sweep against Kansas City Thursday. 

 Mike Moustakas clubbed a three-run homer while left-hander Danny Duffy tossed seven shutout innings and the Royals avoided a three-game sweep by the Yankees with a 5-1 win on Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium. Danny Duffy had this to say about the home run.

New York manager Joe Girardi had this to say about Danny Duffy's slider It looked like Duffy's slider was really good tonight," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "You are going to run into guys who have good stuff and are on. On certain nights it's going to be tough to put much up against them. We had a couple of chances." 

Meanwhile, New York second baseman Starlin Castro had this to say about what his team had trouble with.

New York dropped to 24-14 while Kansas City improved to 17-23 on the season. 

New York will look to rebound as they visit Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field for the first game of a three -game series Friday. 

Right -hander Luis Severino will be on the mound for New York. He has a record of  2-2 with a 3.86 earn run average to go along with forty-seven strikeouts. He goes into the game against Tampa Bay with forty-seven strikeouts vs ten walks in forty-two innings. Opponents have managed to hit just 223 against Severino over seven starts. He will go up against Tampa Bay right -hander Erasmo Ramirez who has a record of 2-0 with a 2.92 earn run average with eighteen strikeouts. He will slide into the rotation in the aftermath of Blake Snell getting optioned to Triple -A Durham. Erasmo Ramirez has made twelve appearances this season, including one start where he picked up the win after pitching five innings on April 20th against Detroit.
