CC Sabathia, Mike Mussina And Mark Teixeira Share Their Thoughts On What It Is Like For Gerrit Cole To Wait And See If And When The MLB Season Will Begin
Gerrit Cole was drafted out of Orange Lutheran High School in Orange County, California in 2008 by the team that wears the pinstripes and the team he grew up rooting for
Instead, Gerrit Cole decided to go to college at UCLA where the right -hander played three seasons . Gerrit Cole where he ranked second at UCLA in career strikeouts (376), third in career games started (49) and fifth in career innings (322.1)...ranks third on UCLA's single-season strikeouts list with 153 as a sophomore in 2010...ranks sixth on the Pac-10 Conference's career strikeouts list (376)...was a two-time All-Pac-10 team selection (2009, 2010) and secured honorable mention All-Pac-10 team accolades in 2011...twice competed for the USA Collegiate National Team (summer of 2009 and 2010)...only player at UCLA to log at least 100 strikeouts in each of three seasons..
In 2011 Gerrit Cole was the first player selected in the MLB Draft. The right -hander was selected by Pittsburgh who is a member of the National League Central where he spent five seasons starting in 2013. In his first season in Pittsburgh he finished with a record of 10-7 with a 3.22 earn run average . In his second season in Pittsburgh in 2014 he finished with a record of 11-5 with a 3.65 earn run average. In his third season in Pittsburgh he finished with a record of 19-8 with an earn run average of 2.60. In his final season with Pittsburgh Gerrit finished with a record of 12-12 with a 4.26 earn run average. Then it was off to a new division and new team! Where would Gerrit take his talents? To Houston where he would spend two seasons. In his first season he finished with a record of 15-5 with a 2.88 earn run average. In his final season with Houston he finished with a record of 20-5 with a 2.69 earn run average. “according to https://www.mlb.com/player/gerrit-cole-543037 Then it was time to decide where he was going to continue his career. Was it going to be on the west coast as a member of the Los Angeles Angels or the Los Angeles Dodgers? Turns out that wasn’t the case as the right -hander decided to take his talents to the Big Apple where he would be playing for the team he grew up rooting for for nine years $324 million dollars “according to an article by George A. King III on nypost.com.
Unfortunately, the right -hander has yet throw his first official pitch in pinstripes for the team he grew up rooting for. Why? Because of the Corona Virus that is effecting us in the United States and around the world.
Recently a couple former players who wore the pinstripes shared their thought on how they think Gerrit Cole is feeling right now because the season hasn’t started and who knows if and when it will begin
Who were the players who shared their thoughts on the newest addition to the team that wears the pinstripes? CC Sabathia,, Mike Mussina, and Mark Teixeira
CC Sabathia had this to say At least he got a chance to meet everybody, get familiar with people and that helps. ... I think (he) will be ready to go. I don’t think it will be a problem at all, especially for him. He is super professional.” while Mike Mussina had this to say . It’s strange Especially since you got half of Spring Training in. And Mark Teixeira had this to say. For a guy like Gerrit Cole to be home throwing bullpens in his backyard when he should be at Yankee Stadium in front of 50,000 fans, it’s got to be tough.” “according to y Mike Rosenstein | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
Lets hope that we do see Gerrit Cole on the mound starting for the team that wears the pinstripes at some point in 2020 but for now New York fans, manager Aaron Boone and players who play for the team that wears the pinstripes are playing the waiting game to see if and when the 2020 season will begin.
