Nestor Cortes, Shohei Ohtani , Jameson Taillon , Reid Detmers are starting the doubleheader today, tonight in Bronx New York as MLB Celebrates Lou Gehrig Day because the second game of the three game was postponed because of mother nature on Wednesday June 1, 2022.

Lou Gehrig’s Day became an annual tradition in 2021 to raise awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and those affected with the debilitating disease that affects the nervous system. In 1939 Lou Gehrig was diagnosed with a rare nervous system disorder. On May 2, 1939 he took himself out of New York starting lineup and he never played baseball again.

Nestor Cortes, Shohei Ohtani are different because Nestor Cortes is only a starting pitcher while Shohei Ohtani is a starting pitcher as well as a Designated Hitter for the Los Angeles Angels. Though,

Could mother nature affect the doubleheader like did game two of the three game series on Wednesday night?

I would there is a strong possibly that could happen because at first pitch of the inaugural game of the doubleheader there a 6% chance of rain then hour after first pitch there is a 49% chance. Then at 3:00pm the chances increase to 70% then go down to 49% by the time the game is supposed to be over. When the second of the doubleheader is supposed to begin there is a 79% chance of rain then hour after first pitch there a 49 % chance of rain , 49% chance at 9:00pm and by the time the game is supposed be over there is a 57% chance of rain.

In this game New York is going to be looking to win the series as well as the doubleheader because New York who is a member of the American League East comes into the game with a record of 34-15 because they won the first game of the three game series by a score of 9-1 on Tuesday night in Bronx New York.

This season when Jordan Montgomery has starts games for New York he has receives 2.04 runs per game per start while his teammates the other four starting pitchers in New York’s starting rotation Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon , Luis Severino, Nestor Cortes receive 6.39, 5.55 , 4.67 , 3.15 run support per game per start.

As Jordan Montgomery started the opening game of the three game series verses the Los Angeles Angels Tuesday night in Bronx New York Jordan Montgomery got his inaugural win of the 2022 MLB because he received run support as New York got to Noah Syndergaard early, often in 9-1 win.

In New York’s 9-1 over Los Angeles Angels in bottom of the first inning Anthony Rizzo doubled to deep center, Aaron Judge scored to make it 1-0 New York. Then Gleyber Torres doubled to deep center, Anthony scored to make 2-0 New York . Then Matt Carpenter hit a three run home run to right Miguel Andujar scored to make 4-0 . Then in the bottom of the 2nd inning DJ Lemahieu doubled to deep, Joey Gallo scored .

All that damage in the bottom of the 2nd was all Joe Maddon needed to see as he took Noah Syndergaard out of the game.

Though, after Noah Syndergaard exited the mound, the game New York still wasn’t done doing damage offensively because in the bottom of the 6th inning DJ Lemahieu grounded into fielders choice to second, Jose Trevino scored while Joey Gallo went to third base. . Then Aaron Judge hit sacrifice fly to center , Joey Gallo scored while DJ Lemahieu went to second . Then in the top of the 7th inning the Los Angeles Angels made the game a little interesting as Luis Rengifo homered to left 386 feet off New York starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery though, that was all the offense for the Los Angeles Angels.

Noah Syndergaard had this to say about his start for the Los Angeles Angels verses New York the team that wears the pinstripes not his former team the New York Mets located in Queens New York but the New York Yankees who are located in Bronx New York.

“It's obvious the team has been in a little bit of a skid right now, so it would've been nice to come out and turn that around,”But I dropped the ball and didn't get the job done. You have to have a short memory and focus on the next one."

I felt pressure and tension in that first inning,” “Baseball is a funny thing. You can have a really good start and then six days later it's the complete opposite. My prep work in between starts felt really good, but then I was pressing the whole time and trying to throw a ball through a garden hose instead of just being free and easy and letting it rip. I was really aiming the ball up there and falling behind in counts."

Los Angeles Angels Manager Joe Maddon had this to say about Noah Syndergaard’s start!

You have to be patient,” Angels manager Joe Maddon said. “His last start he was eight [innings] and 93 pitches, and he looked wonderful. Today was not so good. But the one before the eight and 93 was also a short one, but the one before that was good. So it's one of those situations where you can't jump to conclusions. You have to be patient and trust the guy."
