TJ Rahming To Washington
Although the wide receiver wasn’t drafted he is however going to be in an organization.
T.J. Rahming has agreed to terms with the Washington Redskins to join the NFL organization as an undrafted free agent.
An All-ACC honoree as a wide receiver in 2017 (honorable mention) and 2018 (third team), Rahming played in 50 career games with 43 starts. He finished with 253 receptions for 2,919 yards (11.54) and 13 touchdowns while rushing 15 times for 85 yards (5.67). He returned 38 punts for 237 yards (6.24) and completed one-of-two (.500) passes for 22 yards and one touchdown. During his four years, Rahming amassed 3,241 all-purpose yards. He held Blue Devil career per game averages of 5.06 receptions, 58.38 receiving yards and 64.82 all-purpose yards.
Rahming is the only player in Duke history to start three bowl game victories (2015 New Era Pinstripe Bowl, 2017 Quick Lane Bowl and 2018 Walk-On’s Independence Bowl) and joins fellow wide receivers Johnathan Lloyd and Chris Taylor as the only Blue Devils to play in three bowl wins.
A native of Powder Springs, Ga., Rahming recorded eight career games with 100 or more receiving yards, including a career-high 240-yard performance versus Temple in the 2018 Walk-On’s Independence Bowl. On Duke’s career charts, he ranks tied for first in most seasons with 60 or more receptions (three) and most seasons with 500 or more receiving yards (four), second in games with one or more pass reception (47), tied for second in most games with 10 or more receptions (five), most consecutive 100-yard games (three), most seasons with 50 or more receptions (three), most seasons with 600 or more receiving yards (three) and most seasons with 700 or more receiving yards (three), third in receptions, most games with two or more receptions (41), most games with five or more receptions (24) and most seasons with 70 or more receptions (two), fourth in receptions per game and most receiving yards, tied for fourth in most consecutive games with two or more receptions (27), fifth in receiving yards per game, sixth in 100-yard games and 10th in receiving touchdowns.
In single-game history at Duke, Rahming is tied for fourth in 20 or more yard receiving touchdowns in a contest with two versus Temple in 2018 and tied for 10th in receptions in a contest with 12. Following his performance at the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl, Rahming departed Durham holding Duke bowl game records for receiving yards in a game, receiving yards in a half (150; 2nd), receiving yards in a quarter (140; 3rd), all-purpose yards (286), pass receptions in a half (eight; 2nd), highest yards per reception average (20.00) and most receptions of 20 or more yards (four).
At the conclusion of his 2018 senior season, Rahming was named to the Associated Press and Sports Illustrated All-Bowl Teams following the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl. For the third consecutive season, he earned the program’s Clarkston Hines Award as the most outstanding receiver. He started all 13 games, catching 75 passes for 811 yards (10.81) and eight touchdowns while rushing nine times for 82 yards (9.11). He returned 25 punts for 146 yards (5.84) and completed his only pass attempt for 22 yards and a TD. Within the ACC, he ranked tied for fourth in receiving touchdowns, fifth in receptions per game (5.77) and receptions, eighth in punt return average and receiving yards and ninth in receiving yards per game (62.38). At Georgia Tech, Rahming caught four passes to lift his career total to 202, becoming the fourth Blue Devil with 200 or more career receptions. He teamed with Davis Koppenhaver to form the fourth Duke duo with six or more receiving touchdowns in a year and the third Duke duo with seven or more scoring grabs in a year. Rahming also paired with Lloyd (604) to form the 12th duo in program history to surpass 600 receiving yards each in a season.
As an honorable mention All-ACC wide receiver in 2017, Rahming caught 65 passes for 795 yards (12.23) and two touchdowns. He posted 100-yard games versus Northwestern (127), Florida State (111) and Pittsburgh (142) and had 70 or more receiving yards in two other contests. During his 2016 sophomore campaign, he caught 70 passes for 742 yards (10.60) and one touchdown. He logged 100-yard receiving performances versus North Carolina (100), Pittsburgh (116) and Miami (117).
An honorable mention Freshman All-America pick in 2015, Rahming played in 12 games with six starts. He caught 43 passes for 571 yards (13.28) and two touchdowns. Among rookies in the ACC, Rahming ranked second in receptions, third in receiving yards and third in yards per reception. His breakout performance came at Virginia, establishing Duke single-game freshman records for both receptions (12) and receiving yards (190) while posting the ninth-highest single-game all-purpose yardage total (190) for Blue Devil rookies. The 190 receiving yards marked the fifth-highest single-game total in the ACC for the season and stood as the second-highest single-game total among freshmen nationally.
Rahming also helped Duke to the 2015 New Era Pinstripe Bowl championship. With 51 seconds left in the fourth quarter of the game, he hauled in a 22-yard pass from quarterback Thomas Sirk to give Duke first-and-goal at the Indiana five-yard line, where a Sirk rushing score two plays later coupled with Ross Martin's PAT tied the game at 41-41 and ultimately forced overtime as the Blue Devils prevailed, 44-41, for the program's first bowl win since January 1, 1961, on Martin's 36-yard field goal in the extra sess
