It won’t be like that much longer as as the Atlantic Coast Conference became the latest conference to get rid of divisions in favor of a new scheduling format Starting in 2023, the league announced it will move to a 3-5-5 format, in which each team has three permanent rivalry games played annually, with the other 10 opponents rotating on an every-other-year basis.

The plans for a shift back to a single-division format gained steam during the league's spring meetings in May, with the ACC hoping to improve its TV inventory of marquee games and set up a league championship game that would include its two best teams annually. Interestingly, the new format would not have altered the teams playing in the ACC title game in seven of the past eight years.

North Carolina comes into the game with Wake Forest with a record of 8-1 5-0 in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference because North Carolina topped Virginia 31-28 Saturday in Charlottesville.

In the 1st quarter Brenan Armstrong ran 4 yards for touchdown , Will Bettridge kicked extra point to give Virginia a 7-0 lead before North Carolina got on the scoreboard with a 35 yard field goal kicked by Noah Burnette trimming North Carolina’s deficit to 7-3. In the 2nd quarter Drake Maye ran for 5 yard touchdown, Noah Burnette kicked extra point to give North Carolina a 10-7 lead before Virginia answered with touchdown of their own as Xavier Brown ran for 3 yard touchdown , Will Bettridge kicked the extra point to give Virginia a 14-10 lead. In third quarter North Carolina would get the lead back as Elijah Green would run for yard touchdown, Noah b would kick extra point giving North Carolina a 17-14 lead before Virginia would answer with touchdown of their own as Ronnie Walker Jr. would run for 1 yard touchdown, Will Bettridge would kick extra point giving Virginia a 21-17 lead. Though, that lead would change hands as Josh Downs would catch 19 yard pass from Drake Maye, Noah Burnette would kick extra point giving North Carolina 24-21 lead before North Carolina would extend their lead again this time by 10 points at 31-21 as Elijah Green would catch 22 yard pass from Drake Maye , Noah Burnette would kick extra point before Virginia would score touchdown, kick extra point of their own as Brennan Armstrong would run for 8 yards, Will Bettridge would kick extra point. Though, it wouldn’t be enough as Virginia would come up short to North Carolina 31-28.

Wake Forest comes into the game with a record of 6-3 2-3 in the Atlantic Division Of the Atlantic Coast Conference and sixth in their division following their 21-30 loss to NC State Saturday in North Carolina’s state capital.

In Wake’s Forest 30-21 loss to NC State Saturday in North Carolina’s state capital A.T. Perry caught 29 yard pass from Sam Hartman, Matthew Dennis kicked extra point to trim Wake Forest deficit to 7 points before Christopher Dunn kicked 25 yard field goal to seal win for NC State.
