NC State Is Hosting Texas Tech Tonight In Raleigh

NC State is hosting Texas Tech tonight in North Carolina’s state capital!

NC State, Texas Tech have met before on the gridiron!

Their previous meeting on September 20, 2003 when NC State beat Texas Tech 49-21 when Chuck Amato was the Head Coach.

This time, around Dave Doeren is the Head Coach.

NC State is a member of the Atlantic division of the Atlantic Coast Conference and comes to the game with a record of 2-0 because they’ve their two games of the season including last Saturday’s game in North Carolina’s capital where they won 55-3.

In NC State’s 55-3 win over Charleston Southern The NC State offense made its presence known in the Wolfpack's home opener against Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon.

The Pack thrashed the Buccaneers 55-3, marking head coach Dave Doeren's 10th straight home-opener win. NC State also tallied its 11th straight win at Carter-Finley Stadium.

FIRST HALF (38-0)
The Pack scored on the eighth play of the game to start its scoring run. Kicker Christopher Dunn made his first 40-plus yard field goal of the day to give NC State an early 3-0 lead.

Devin Leary then tallied NC State's first touchdown at home this season on a 12-yard keeper with 3:28 remaining in the first quarter. Leary added another rushing score on NC State's next offensive possession before tossing scores to Jordan Houston, Anthony Smith and Delbert Mimms, III to stretch the Pack's lead to 38-0 at the break.

SECOND HALF (55-3)
NC State turned the Buccaneers over on Charleston Southern's fifth play from scrimmage in the second half when defensive end Travali Price recovered a fumble at the CSU 27-yard line. After Price recovered the fumble, Leary came in and threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to tight end Christopher Toudle for the Pack's sixth straight touchdown.

Charleston Southern found its lone scoring opportunity in the third quarter after converting a 48-yard field goal. The Buccaneers threw two interceptions on the afternoon.

To start the fourth quarter, backup quarterback Jack Chambers found wide receiver Jalen Coit in the end zone to record the Pack's seventh touchdown of the day.

Texas Tech is member of the Big XII and like NC State comes into the game with a record 2-0 though, unlike NC State didn’t rout their opponent as they won a close game with Houston 33-30 on Saturday in Lubbock Texas as Donovan Smith put Texas Tech at risk of losing with his arm.

The sophomore quarterback rescued the Red Raiders with his legs.

Smith ran 9 yards for a touchdown in the second overtime, lifting Texas Tech to a 33-30 victory over No. 25 Houston on Saturday.

A back-and-forth finish ended with the Red Raiders (2-0) beating a ranked nonconference opponent in the regular season for the first time since 1989, a span of 14 games. 

It was the last meeting between the former Southwest Conference rivals before they become league foes again when the Cougars move from the American Athletic to the Big 12 next year.

After Houston's Bubba Baxa opened the second OT with a 20-yard field goal, Smith broke into the open field and ran untouched to the end zone, sending Texas Tech students and fans streaming onto the field. 

Bubba Baxa kicked a go-ahead 35-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining in regulation after Gervarrius Owens returned Smith's third interception to the Texas Tech 21 in the final two minutes.

Smith answered with a 27-yard scramble on the next play, sparking a drive to a tying 47-yard field goal from Trey Wolff with three seconds to go. Wolff replaced Gino Garcia, who missed from 45 earlier in the fourth quarter.
